Another thought!

Maybe we should have invested in new gas stations as they seems to pop up as fast as banks are empty buildings around here… Banks are sure getting a bum rap and they deserve all they get. Wait, wait, the gas company’s are just as bad. Now what are we going to do? Gas prices rise, banks close, no money to be had.
I don’t know about you guy’s but I’m going to go play with my trains. A Guinness is in order. Your flavor is good too.

Cheers, TOF

The economy sucks but everyone keeps raising prices. They want you to recyle so we do. Then they raise our garbadge collection bill because the landfills are not filling up like they use to. Somethings wrong with that.

I heard a rumor (think its true though) that Wally Weird is discontinuing they’re plastic bags, and are going to make you bring your own, or buy they’re cloth bags. That’ll save em big bucks I presume, whilst making them a couple bucks on each bag you have to buy from them. I say we make em take all our groceries out for us 1 can at a time or several of they’re associates to haul em out for us as a kind of “protest”! Hah LOL If any of you have experienced they’re new re-doing of the stores you will notice they only carry great value (their brand) and one only (the one that sold for them the best) brand names!! They are starting to go up to equal or more than you can find elsewhere on other things. You just gotta watch em all the time!!! Regal p.s. the other day i was looking for some electrical connectors, the kind that come in a plastic box with little compartments with several different connectors. Wally Weird $7.00 + local parts store which is higher than most parts stores $3.00 same one.!! Got to be vigilant these days with yer money.

Wal Mart is not cheap for a lot of things, especially household and automotive.

Funny about the bank comment, they are springing up around here, but then, these are the local mom/pop guys that took no TARP money. I got rid of everything at the last bank (SunDisTrust) that did for a whole assortment of reasons.

Thats funny it is the complete opposite here. Walmart is much cheaper up this way. Then yet everything else in NJ is expensive. You are right banks are also sprining up here as well along with deli’s and dunkin donuts. Seems to be one of each every few miles. At least our gas is one of the cheapest around and we dont have to pump it ourselves.

Well, one has to be careful. Replacement C7 Christmas lightbulbs were $0.88 a pack. The problem? Kroger, Target, et al, they were $0.99 a pack. The WalMart ones were four to a pack, the six to a pack at the other sites. We won’t get into their groceries.

Dunkins were popping up here overnight like weeds, some even outnumbering Starsucks locations in some areas! But not apparently like up north, they do not actually bake the donuts onsite at all, then there was this other tidbit:

That is nothing new; unless you’re aware what stuff costs and what it is worth, you’ll get suckered more often than not.

I stay away from dunkin donuts after I found out they put some crap in their donuts to help keep them fresh longer. I prefere the good ol mom and pop deliies and bakeries they seem to do very well.

Gas stations are dissappearing here left and right. has to do with regulations to replace older leaking steel tanks with new fiberglass lined tanks, so most just close up instead of changing the tanks, shame as in some places one or two stations have a virtual monopoly on gas sales as all the others closed up.

Related to this, years ago I got a UST list for the town where I was attending college to enter these into a GIS database for groundwater and fire protection data.

The school and city were the worst offenders as far as older, unknown and unmonitored tanks. I don’t think there was a single gas station tank over five years of age.

The problem here is “raised pastry” is not something that Southerners seem to get right. This is the land of the cake (blech!) donut.

The best mom/pop donut shop around these parts I can remember is an hour east in Cookeville, TN.

The proliferation of banks is a total mystery to me. it’s not like you need a lot of physical space to store electronic money. I well remember lining up on payday to deposit my check and get some cash, along with LOTS of other people. Now my paycheck is direct deposited, and most bills are paid with direct deductions. I never need to go into a bank. But banks spring up everywhere. They seem to be expensive buildings too. Does anyone know why so many banks?

What ? No Krispy Kreme in Tn?
I’ve lived in three Southern states and have visited many more. I didn’t have to eat any cake donuts.
I thought that was a Yankee thing
Ralph

Be aware,be VERY aware…a Tim Horton’s may be moving in close to you…maybe even have a bank in it !!!

Born and rased up north, did not have too many cake donuts from Dunkies or Jolly Pirate. An ex-Ohioan at a TN donut store (Shipley's) was the one that clued me into the love of the cake donut down here.

Yeah, there are a few of those KKs around too. Ordered a cruller, and got a CAKE donut instead of a nice flaky pastry. Never again…blech!!! Reportedly, they may not make it out of bankruptcy.

Timmy Horton’s would be a nice change around here (eh?). But they have split with Wendy’s (who now is part of Arby’s…) Closest one is in Ft Knox, KY.

The best pizza is picked up and not delivered.
You call in your order they say in broken english “Ok Russell 20 min” you walk downtown or drive depending on the size of the order to get it.
Hardest thing is how they understand American slang…“Mother expletive” is not the same as “expletive my mother”
They always say the latter and I say guys!!! Please that is not correct…They say what’s the difference??
Forgetboutit.

I was born and raised up north too. I think maybe the cake donut is a TN. thing.
Worst donuts I ever had was just recently at a Dunkin Donuts in South Carolina. I swear they had to have been a week old.
Ralph

Wish we had a Dunkin Donuts or similar around here. We have no actual donut shops (no place to park the police cars) anywhere close. The donuts we do have are definitely the world’s worst and I love practically all donuts. Whether from the local Ray’s Grocery in town or Walmart in coos Bay…all the same. Double yech!! If you like heavy and sugary with little flavor then Hwy 101 on the southern Oregon coast is the place.
