Large Scale Central

Another new feature

Something else to try out. Auctions.

I’ve installed and tweaked some auction software for the site. Similar to EBay, different fee schedules, of course, and your money goes to running this site, not into some big corporation’s stockholders accounts.

Check it out. Hit the “Auctions” link at the top of the page.

Wow, Bob! That sounds like a great idea. I hope it will prove to be one. Best wishes, Zubi

An update.

Some of you have said that you arent getting the signup email. I’m looking into it, but if you sign up, and dont get an email, let me know, and Ill activate your account manually.

Also, Im looking at the fee schedule. This is EBay’s fee schedule:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

Im pondering 5% on the first $25, and 3% over that. Opinions? 2% over that maybe? I dont want to get rich here.

If you use the same break downs as Ebay but your percentages as 5%, 3% and 1.5% that would be fair.

What’s concerning me more is getting the word out. It will take a whole lot more people involved than just LSC members or even if you add in MLS and LSOL. My suggestion is a quarter page add in GR to launch it to the public. That way we can be prepared when the magazine comes out to have items ready for auction so people see a full auction rather than just a few items. Might suggest discounted fees for dealers to set up at the start of the launch.

Yea… Id like to exercise the site a bit without getting HUGE, since its easier to annoy 20 users than 200. The email is definitely a problem I need to fix…

I’ve tweaked the email settings a bit.

Also, every user that signs up for Auctions gets a $5 credit toward fees. Good until March 31, 2008.

Thanks Bob, great idea. I have listed one of my items and we will see what happens. I hope to see a lot of support. This Would be an ideal market for anyone in the train business.

It would nice to be able to use HTML in the item discription area…maybe some day.

I am thinking of putting a link to your auction site on my ebay custom store pages. That may help get some more traffic here. You can’t link to an outside site on an ebay listing but you can if you have a store. We’ll see what happens.

Best of luck, and if I can be of any help please let me know.

I know it’s way down the list of priorities, but you might want to read the Terms & Conditions. Especially the last paragraph…

LSC Auctions Terms said:
Laws. These Terms of Service shall be governed by and constructed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and any disputes will be decided only by the Courts of England and Wales.
Also, I got an error message after registering:

Warning: mktime() expects parameter 1 to be long, string given in /home/rmccown3/public_html/auctions/config/datecalc.php on line 61

Thanks Bob

PS - The email came right away.

All pleadings shall be in Norman French or Welsh. Should cut down on nuisance suits. Especially annoying complainants could be subjected to trial by ordeal.

Odd, John…thats a strange one… Ill have to figure out what caused it…

Changed the text…thanks!

I still wonder why Scotland is left out? Discrimination?

Not by me!

Thanks Bob
I got signed up no problems.

Distinct legal system. The Scots forbid everything, on pain of being minced into haggis.

In the city of York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.

If crazy laws interest you, check out:

I think the English law, above, was recently repealed.

My favorite is:

  • In Kentucky, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon more than six-feet long.

tread lightly on the Scottish folk…Linda’s done more attitude adjusting than her self described “just holding the jackets”!

Growing up in the high flats in Glasgow does tend to make for tough folk. Not as bad as the Gorbels tho where Linda says they eat their young!

OK, Ive been watching the emails for the last day. Seen them all go out. Has anyone NOT got an email they were expecting? How about the out-bid notices? Are you all getting them?

I haven’t got the expected email, yet, though I do have access to LSC-Bay.

I don’t think that I have any filters put on my receiver, but I’ll look again.

Steve

OK, I guess there is a default junk-box that had 3 messages from Borders Book Store and one from LSC-Bay.

All is well.

Still Steve

Interesting…is there a way to tell how the message got flagged as spam? Id like to avoid that if possible. Can you forward the entire message to me, including the headers?

Got my outbid notice just fine…
Dang it!
