Another Fine Mess Bob Talked ME Into

OK so I’ve wanted a triple combine for a while now, Baggage/RPO/Coach and have had it brewing for some time, so Bob decides to draw up plans for a car roof and talks me into Beta Testing…So after an afternoon’s work in Bartwerks …we got…

So now onto Car Sides…

I think he is! :)

What is that, styrene?

Thats some nice work Bart. If i tried to glue all that together I would have made one big mess. Your making it look too easy.

Aeromodellers do it all the time (well…the old timer modellers)…Happy days…balsa cement all over the fingers.

I’ve always wondered why this wasn’t attempted before. What will you cover it with?

Looks like wood, but styrene could be used instead.

I think we should see Bart in a movie to see how it REALLY WENT!

Yep its styrene…and I plan on covering it…with styrene! and then mebbe some foil tape err sumthin…not really thought that far ahead yet…was impressed I got it all to hang together…

I need to work on the ends of the roof next.

Doncha know? Usn CLASSY radnacks use 100mph tape? Nunna that plain ol' duck tape for us! No Sirreee! What kinda stoopud name is DUCK tape anyway? Any fool could tell ya thet the stuff won't hold no ducks worth a hoot! All you'd git wuz feathers! Yep, 100mph tape - It's good enuff fer NASCAR, it's good enuff for you... and it comes in camo, too!

Hockey tape has a nice texture to it, but its a bit thick, and the adhesive is terrible on it

Ok…in order to progress to the next part of the roof build need to box in the sides, in order to box in the sides, I need to make the sides an ends…to make the sides and ends…I need windows…to make windows…I need a jig…

This was actually the third one I had to make to get into production…while waiting for the glue to dry in the jigs I cut the sides from 1/16 acrylic, and began applying some 1/16 scribed siding I bought for a boxcar project, then caboose project, that never happened…note that the carsides are one piece, but wont look that way til I install the doors!

Windows and door in…still not quite happy with the windows of the baggage doors…something not right…

Hi Bart,

Interesting model your building. Which door are you refering too? I would sugest finishing the bottom of the door’s, then see how everything looks, looks good to me.

Chuck

Nice work Bart - greqat job on thee windows. (I get Alan at G.A.L. to cut my windows for me.)

Kevin started me off using aluminum duct tape. It’s easy to cut into strips the right width, and sits down tight. This roof is the alum tape:

Jack Thompson uses wide masking tape, which has a more textured finish.

Ok made a bit of progress…the bottoms of the doors are done…I’m going to mask the window portions and since the whole side is l;aid on a piece of clear plex when painted the doors will no longer be see through! I’m sorta planning on getting familiar with Aluminum tape, thanks to Jerry Barnes builds… got the ends finished today and glued the ends and sides together…

Its finally starting to look like a passenger car!
