Anaheim CA train show Jan 10,11, who's goin or showin'?

Joe, If I had gotten an email from you about this show I’d have replied right away. The Door Hollow team are anxious to see you in what is now only one week away. All the other LSC folks are welcome to come and sit a spell at our layout as well.

Bob

Nice to hear from you, Bob. You must be on dial up.

Looking forward to seeing you and Sandra and Mr CSI Newport Beach.

I’ll give you all the old MRs you can handle.

Public apology to Bob about his not getting my email. Wrong address.

Well I’m all set up, the Door Hollow is ready. Lots of vendors it looks bigger than last year
I’m over off where itit feels like Siberia. Two layouts that were supposed to be near me look like no shows. We’ll see if they show tomorrow.

Vic, I will see you tomorrow morning. I figure I can grab the hot dog stand when you are not looking.

Yikes I’ll be sure to pack my bamboo Kendo Shinai

I’m still debating. Later RJD

Kids, my lord, so many kids! Rainy day sure brings the families to the show. Wow day one was great! The two microlayouts were as popular as the pizza. Folks were amazed a layout could be that small. Sorry no pics I left late and was too busy from the get go and once the show started it was very hectic keeping the kids hands off the micros. We’ll see how busy day 2 will be, no micros Sunday so it should be more relaxed, I have to pack them in and out on Saturday, there’s just not enough room in the car for all of it.

Vic paints a brighter picture than I do. True, the place was overrun by families (maybe it was the rainy weather) and Vic’s two mini layouts got a good workout, as did Bob Baxter and friends’ “Door Hollow Short Line” and whatever the name was of the SoCal club that had a great On30 layout with some beautifully sceniced modules, including a couple owned by San Diego’s Bob Treat, who has one of the best large scale outdoor layouts in the country. Del Oro Pacific also had their large scale layout running, though it’s smaller than before. But basically, the show was/is the layouts, as the vendors’ booths were disappointing. There were a few large scalers, but mostly every other gauge and tons of old Lionel and tinplate, numerous vintage books, and stuff. In fact, at times it seemed more like a flea market than a train show. Bragdon was there, demonstrating how to make mountains and weather your equipment. I never did find Elmassian and his Z-gauge mini layout. Boy, I really miss the original–and real–Big Train Show.

Jeeze, we had a 40 foot square area in the middle of the floor, the only Z scale layout there. We had 3 layouts in our booth. Wendell found me.

Yeah, I would love a large scale only show, but that’s not in the cards lately. There were a number of large scale sales, nice price on a new USAT undec Hudson, and yes, lots of older bachman toy stuff.

Greg

Some pics. Not the best my camera can do. I forgot to reset if from macro to regular. But the colors are nice. Greg, I saw a large layout but no you that I could discern. Anyway, that’s Vic and some images of Door Hollow’s neat scenes. Guess what the flatcat load is made of?

I attended LA on Saturday - see my review in Conventions/Shows.
Worth the trip just to meet Greg Elmassian and Vic Smith!
Wendell

I can see what happened Joe… I was not at the layout all the time, I did go to the bathroom and went to eat lunch.

Next time, ask ANYONE at the layout where Greg is.

And they will say Greg is out to lunch, as always. Later RJD

Greg and all:

Greg was most helpful diagnosing a electronics board from an 20+ year-old 2019 LGB Mogul. A friend returning to large scale outdoors, brought the defective board with him to the show. Greg made an evaluation and suggested some sources. Again, evidence of the value in attending.
Wendell

A few lessons learned from this years show.

Kids have an innate need to see by touching…and unless you watch them like a hawk they will grab the big red knob and l see how fast they can make your trains go! :-0

The parents satirical comments that to keep the kids from reaching into my layout that my guard rope should be electrified… may have serious merit! :-0

This time one of my guard arms got wrenched loose by an overexcited young lad, that’s being fixed as I write.

As for the powerpacks, today I brought a small cardboard box to cover them and the problem went away, classic ‘out of sight out of mind’ , but it looks like crap and it causes excessive heat build up with the packs, and it looks like crap, oh I said that…

So as that annoyed me out came the Swiss Army knife, tape and the repair Elmer’s. I whittled up a building mock up to site over them that still allows the heat to escape. It will be a jailhouse, complete with jailbreak when finished. I’ll cover that with a separate building log.

It was great seeing old faces and finally meeting some for the first time, like Wendell. Thats it for Anaheim, see you (hopefully) at Ontario

Not to belabor the point, but I’m not seeing any answers to my question about what that flat car load is made of. So?

I see no pictures in your posts Joe… hard to answer your question.

Look like printer parts to me…

Vic, I see a “box cat”, but Joe needs info about a flat cat (see below)…
