Large Scale Central

Amherst Large Scale Show 2023

If I don’t forget, my little Telegraph Shack from MIK 2 years ago.

I drove up from MD to MA today, and took a small side trip to see Jon and his layout.

It was a lot of fun chatting with him and seeing his indoor / outdoor operation. Lots of clever things going on to get a lot of track in a small space!

Some pics of Jon’s layout, starting with the world famous “Fred’s Tomb” feature:

Jon uses Railpro, and it was amazing to see how perfectly synchronously those two big locos move when MU’d.

Thanks Jon!

…egads…you are the only one to admit to seeing my future resting spot…at least the only one to admit seeing it. !!!

Do you think I will find comfort ?..a full report…PLEASE.
Fred

Fred, I’m afraid it looks a little tight for the whole enchilada. So, if you’re willing to part with a limb at some point, said limb will be VERY comfortable. Heck, Jon might put it on a string of flats to be periodically displayed!

OK, you asked for a full report…

[edit to say, wow, that was in super bad taste…]

wish i had known, i would have stopped by

I love it select one loco, push the MU button tell it loco# 1&2 check directions are right and your off and running

Well, I had about 5 minutes notice because I didn’t see Cliffs text when he sent it. We talked about it a few days ago, but had no time scheduled. It just worked!

Cliff, I lied when I said you were only the second guest. I forgot Pat came down to pick up a loco many moons ago!

Cliffy;
It had been established with Jon years ago, that “I” would be in cremated, ash form, contained in a simple Bachman, Big Hauler Tank Car…so it would be in fine taste to display the tank car, if there ever is anyone that would show interest, and want to remember just a few seconds of history…!! no string of flat cars needed…just 18" or less of track, in that short tunnel…!! Plastic ties please…they last longer !!
The tank car wouldn’t be lettered for “GAMPS” as I’m not and never will be a grandfather…!! Maybe just letter the car, as “MOW, Dust Car” reporting marks IPP&W 001… instructions: “Return to hole after viewing”. !!
Fred

I was thinking of bringing my snow removal equipment …

Fred, that makes a LOT more sense than what I was imagining… and more pleasant for all concerned, haha! Well, except for… hmm…

[edit] Hey, who in the heck started all this???

Pretty sure that’s a Piko Taurus.

I do hope the bare tables attract interest in the LSC “Family”.
It will be nice if a good number of LSC Members join together to make those tables and what they represent, look ALIVE and Inviting…
I wish I could be there to do my share…
Fred Mills

Thanks. I see that it came with buffers. I wonder how good of a puller she is?

Here’s a quick pan of the venue on Friday AM, just before the doors were open to the public.

The Chester & Becket layout was too stunning to not shoot a brief clip.

This young man spent almost two hours today switching a complete timesaver card.

Picked this up today.

It wasn’t York of old, but it was a good show. Attendance could have been better, but people showed up today and we saw several large carts full of product leave Charlie Ro’s booth. Bob, Al and I each bought an AMS car from G-Scale Junction, the only dealer with any Fn3 cars. Locos were everywhere, but cars were scarce. I asked a GSJ how it was going, and as of mid-day Saturday, they had not made expenses. Probably partially due to the fact that they had a small heavily stocked booth way back in the corner because their selection was good (in 1:22/1:29).

I think this show has potential to grow. We all need to do a better job of promoting it and perhaps having another large dealer or two like RLD would help.

Lots of folks bought and sold things at the White Elephant table. I managed to sell 3/5 of what I brought after marking them down. That darn Lionel UP boxcar that I have been trying to unload for years still didn’t sell even marked down to $20. The dang Aristo wheels on it are worth that :frowning:

I’m glad I went and enjoyed the company, even if it was a much smaller group than in years past.

Looking forward to next year. @Rooster, you need to make the trip next year. It’s no further than folks up my way drove for York.
