Amazing Discoveries

After a long absence I thought I’d have a look around this site. I’ve learned some amazing things:

  • America has the best government in the world. However, this government is run by imbeciles, idiots, and incompetent nincompoops.

  • Taking incandescent light bulbs off the market is an assault on personal freedoms. Allowing “Grand Theft Auto” on the market is an assault on personal freedoms.

  • The American government has never done a single good thing but is responsible for everything that is bad.

  • An American can start a thread titled “Sure to Stir up Conversation”. An Australian who responds is branded a typical Aussie pot stirrer.

  • The Americans who criticize the government’s actions and competence the loudest are the most insulted when someone agrees with them.

  • There was a major biological event, possibly the dawning of a new species, around 1920 in the USA. Women suddenly became capable of understanding and participating in matters of government.

  • The US constitution should not be reinterpreted or tampered with (except the part that forbids the establishment of a state religion).

  • Anyone concerned about the environment cannot, by definition, be an environmentalist. An environmentalist is a rabid leftist whacko whereas concern for the environment is basically sensible (unless, of course, that concern infringes on the profits of rich people. In such cases, that concern qualifies as “environmentalist”).

  • There is a vast conspiracy of environmentalists. It remains to be explained how a vast group of whackos could organize themselves into a cohesive conspiracy.

  • The term “liberal socialist” is, in the US, a tautology. In the rest of the world it is an oxymoron.

  • People concerned about public health and nutrition are called “environmentalists”.

Fascinating.

You’re learning.
Give it a year to sink in.
Bloody POMs

Welcome back Kevin.

I look forward to your insightful and biting comments.

I’d give your remarks about a B or a B+…

BTW, where the hell ya been?

Only Australians are qualified to write or say 'Bloody POMS'.

BTW - where does THAT remark come from, AFAIK no Brit has posted on this thread until now?

Hang about Terry.
I am a POM (or a POME if I am correct) and I know where it came from.
Allegedly.

If the term is not too degrading, inquiring minds wanna know.........;)

I have no idea what POM means…

Yeah, so? What’s your point? Do you have a point?

Welcome back, Kevin, where ya been? How’s the railroad?

What the heck is a POM(E)?

Isn’t it curious that conservationist and conservative have the same root word?

Perhaps those enquiring minds might like to visit here: http://www.acronymfinder.com/POME.html

Given the history of the settlement of Australia it should all become very clear.

AHA! I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw…

Thanks Tony for the explaination

My points, in order:

  • There some amazing, sometimes dumbfounding, political insights to be had here.

  • Thanks. For the last 12 months I’ve been busier than a one armed bricklayer in Baghdad. I bought an old house in my “prairie home town” at a bargain basement price. Then the property market went sky high so I sold my acreage. That required a move, a change of job, etc. Then for the last 3 months I’ve been helping a friend renovate a couple of old houses to capitalize on the local housing boom. (Renovating is a lot more time consuming than it appears on TV). Anyhoo, I haven’t even unpacked all my cr@p yet.

  • The railway is in a box somewhere. I have a huge back yard here and am hoping to make a start on the permannent trackage before the snow flies. I’ve drawn up detailed plans for Phases 1a and 1b.

  • “POM” or “Pommy” is someone from England. It is not an insult, simply an acknowledgement of their origins, equivalent in tone to “Aussie” or “Yank”. My brother-in-law is a Pommy, but in his case he’s a “Pommy B@st@rd”.

  • Not so curious. Conservationists and convervatives are both trying to conserve. Retain a forest or retain family values. It’s all about preventing change.

I’m off to Vegas for a week from Monday. Anything to see there?

Cheers

I’m disappointed. I was hoping for an A-

Kevin,

Don’t worry about the Grade, there’s lots that doesn’t make the grade; including certain engines.

BTW you get an A+, but remember I’m Canadian, too.

Oh plenty to see. Hoover dam, a lunch cruise on Lake Mead, Valley of Fire just north of Vegas, and the Grand Canyon which is about a 4-5 hour drive east of Vegas. Not to mention plenty of train action along 1-5 south between Vegas and Barstow,

We’re a fine pair of Canadians. You’re Swiss and I’m Australian.

Happy Swiss National Day.

Cheers

Thank you Kevin.

Can’t you just see the two of us in the USoA? Two more comedians added to the Northern influx.

But the corker would be the Mexican arrivals learning reasonably fluent English and starting to crack Gringo jokes. Someone said the Gringo jokes are two levels above the Tonto jokes.

Aren’t there any native Canucks besides the French
