After ECLSTS run on the CVRR

One heck of a good time today, I enjoyed everyone’s company and was a pleasure too see all different types of equiptment running on the CVRR. The knowledge and (b.s.) shared is always awesome. Also a thank you again Bob for this site as it has made some great connections with folks over the years in this hobby. With that said post your shots up of the CVRR run here guys and thanks to all that attended as it was a pleasure. I’ll start with Ralph’s “LSC Company train” crossing the deck truss heading towards Lemo.

Then we had Ken and Ralph’s train passing on the viaduct

I spotted Rics buggy passing Lemo and notice the town hussie Shawnette trying too solicit beer as the buggy passed her by.

Also spotted two guys on a hand car and I believe they were heading towards the J tower looking for booze and the hussie Shawnette.

Jon Radder had his RDC’s here as well and have a few more shots but gonna wait on the rest of the pictures to come in from the others and my photographer Scott. So I’m gonna leave it with these for now and just wait. Great time guys! ROOSTER

Dave, Thanks again for a good day. Looked like Ken enjoyed his specials. Having Rics traveling critter parade was quite a treat. Glad to see you kept your dad Andy in line. Did Jon get his sales pitch to work? Ralph seems to have found a sudden need for new industries on his line.

One of Ralphs’ new industries cars. Brunts Meats

Don’t reconize the face on the boxcar but if he would have had a baseball cap on I would say he’s a model image of Ken? I do reconize those new jeans and shoes in the shot though.

The PVRR northbound arrived in Mechanicsburg Sunday. Our engineer had to wait for a Cumberland Valley local to clear as Amtrak passes.

I wouldn't know. I was afraid to eat the cupcakes too. Heard they were yours :D Ralph

Glad to hear everyone had a great time. Wish I could have been their. Pictures are great.

Had a great time at Dave’s on Sunday. The weather could have been better, but at least the rain held off until everyone was beginning to head on to their destinations. I didn’t unload the camera last night, but my shots will pretty much duplicate what you see here.

The CVSRy’s demonstration run of their surplus RDC-1’s did not go well, and the hoped for sale didn’t materialize, despite repeated arm twisting and “sweet deal” offers that included a 6 month no-cost lease. This was reminiscent of a welder sale of a year ago that went bad  It seems that a well-known design flaw in the RDC made itself known on the CVRR: Long stiff cars like the RDC need well sprung trucks to negotiate curving grades. Since Aristo’s RDC lacks sprung trucks, both the RDCs in an MU consist would consistently derail the front truck in the same place regardless of speed. After several attempts to get around this flaw, CVSRY’s management staff reluctantly loaded the cars back on their truck for the return trip to Connecticut.

Made good time and managed to stay ahead of the rain coming North. Unfortunately, back to work this morning.

I did manage to get a shot of the RDC’s with all wheels on the rails.

Funny

“Two new accounts with the PVRR…Brunt’s Head Brand Provisions and Marconi Goats.”

Yep typical case of “cooler heads prevail” when the logo is on a reefer.

As to Marconi, how about Marconi’s goat cheese macaroni?

BTW don’t tell us about the “mild” weather, the thermometer in the one pic tells it all. Brrrrr!

We are home!!!

Had a great time at the CVRR, nice railroad… Good food, nice wife & kid…

Ah, c’mon, HJ, that’s Idaho kegger weather! Yer made of sterner stuff that that, aren’t you?

Great pix, everyone!

OK so I got the shots that Scott took and a bit overwhelmed as he shot off 431 pictures at full size meaning most are 3 to 4 MB. I’m still tooling through them and plan on burned copies for all that attended but I resized a few of ones that I personally liked at the moment. This is my shot of Jons RDCS and I’m still thinking about that Jon! You offered a hell of a deal too me on them but not sure how I will fit them into my plan.

The rest of these are Scotts pictures and I choose shots of unusual places or just general activity through out the day. I’ll start with this one as I noticed that Father Fred somehow made it on the rear platform of a caboose as Shawnette is still standing at the J tower soliciting him/herself and offering free beer.

Not sure whose locomotive but this was taken under the deck steps and a shot I have tried in the past but never really focused on that point.

This is Rics hand car and the gentlemen working it had a little difficulty working the 1% grade towards Lemo. I came out of the house only too hear grunting and groaning as they pumped the hand car. That was very funny!!

Speaking of the J tower this is a shot of Kens consist passing it heading north onto the deck truss.

My boy running his Tweetsie set that Ralph being from that area suggested he must run. Notice he is focused as he has never had other equiptment sharing the same mainline. I believe the buggy or the boxcab was sharing trackage at the same time.

Poor Jon he always takes a beatin’ in these photo opportunities! Sorry I couldn’t help it. I must say you have the biting of the tongue action going on quite well and this is the first step in scratchbuilding!

If it makes ya’ feel better he got me too and ALL the others as well.

From the start of the show on Friday till the end here on Sunday I must say I had an AWESOME TIME! ROOSTER P.S. Bruce signed my Ass!!!

That’s a mighty strong bridge, doesn’t even look like it is bending!!! Jon, regard the derailing Budds, I also had that problem but a posting on one of the forums had a link to a Budd modification page (I will see if I can find it), one mod was to turn the bogies around so that the pivotting axle end is on the outside, this also involved some alterations to the wiring to reach the truck, but it sure worked for me, no more derailments where the grade changes on a curve. Good photos fella’s, looks like you all had a fine time, would have come but it was a bit far to go for a weekend (from Australia that is), if that thermometer is right BRRRRRRRR, day time temperature down here is about 80 at the moment. Wayne

Jon,

Found that Budd page if you are interested, link is below.

Wayne

http://www.calvertcentral.com/RDC.html

Thanks Wayne -

I remember that trick, and even explained it to Dave while I was trying to close the deal. I’ve just been too lazy to do it. The way I remembered it was swap the front and rear trucks. That quick and easy fix screws up some of the side frame detail. The links more involved swap probably fixes that issue.

I’ll have to look at them again.

EDIT to add additional comments -

When I saw that picture I thought the same as you. Darn strong bridge that is

I don’t think the thermometer is correct. It was under 50, but not by a lot.
