Nice......I wanna know who the heck is standing in my garden 2nd to last shot as they look like Kens shoes!......Good pics Jon! ;) HA! Edit for page 2!
You were lucky. I was gonna pull up those anemic looking leaves that were poking up out of the ground for ya, but I figgered you probably thought it was lettuce................;)

I don't think the thermometer is correct. It was under 50, but not by a lot.
Now there you go spoiling the illusion, Jon. They thought we were tough out there in that cold weather :D Ralph

Actually that thermometer is pretty much right on. Showed 60 today.

How would you know the temperature Mr. Russell… You were busy the whole time gettin’ off on the Ozone form the fan motors  [url=lsc.cvsry.com/Post/DaveRussellSniff-1200.JPG]

Long nose hair removal tool (ouch).

HA!!!
That fan motor burned up from your RDCs!!!
Damn I needed a shave!

Something was definitely wrong when I was sharing the inside loop with Ken’s train. He said his loco doesn’t short the track, but he has the RCS antenna wired to the track, so it might. I put an RDC on the track and kept cranking the power and all they did was wiggle. Definitely a short somewhere, but that shouldn’t have burned up the fan.

Do you need a new one ? - I have lots of computer supplies I can scrap one out of.

You weren’t on the same tack as Ken so don’t try and blame him!!! Actually that fan resided on the first receiver that burned up or perhaps it’s not. October run when you picked up the Cigar store. I bet that damn fan was the problem all along!

Yes I was at first, before you pulled Zach's Tweetsie train. I just never got it to go.

Hummm,

Didn’t have any issues with the inside loop that I recall. If there was then “BLAME KEN”
Thinking I should try that receiver I condemned that had that fan attached too it…if it works that leaves me with 4 receivers if it works and I’m not gonna sell any cause Marconi will just buy it up before anyone else gets a shot at it.

The antennae is wired to only one side of the tender truck and if there was a short there it would be the first time that’s happened. All my loco’s are wired the same way. But I’ll check it out and see if there’s a problem.

Sold

Had a great time at Dave’s on Sunday…snip… The CVSRy’s demonstration run of their surplus RDC-1’s did not go well, and the hoped for sale didn’t materialize, despite repeated arm twisting and “sweet deal” offers that included a 6 month no-cost lease. This was reminiscent of a welder sale of a year ago that went bad  It seems that a well-known design flaw in the RDC made itself known on the CVRR: Long stiff cars like the RDC need well sprung trucks to negotiate curving grades. Since Aristo’s RDC lacks sprung trucks, both the RDCs in an MU consist would consistently derail the front truck in the same place regardless of speed. After several attempts to get around this flaw, CVSRY’s management staff reluctantly loaded the cars back on their truck for the return trip to Connecticut…snip…

[b] [color=blue] Jon/David Thanks for the nice words and the Welcome. Here is what one club member did to his (now mine) RDC’s…hint…hint… Photo of Standard mounted truck with VERY LITTLE front-2-back travel.

Photo of Sprung mounted truck - will now handle non-perfect track geometry. He named his Rock Canyon RR (Rock-n-Roll with switch backs and 6% grades). The ‘sprung’ adjustment added ~1/4" to the car height and removed derailments.

Interesting idea Ray. Looks pretty simple. Do you know what he used to bend the spring ?

Ralph, thanks for linking me to this thread. You folks sure had a grand time running. It’s so nice to see the Illinois folks running together again. Andy looks great.

I sure wish I could have made it to the ECLSTS but just couldn’t put it together.

Again, thanks for the link.

All the trains look fabulous.

[b] Jon Here is Jeff's detailed reply:

The RDC single leaf springs: Just simple Aluminum flashing from Home Depot.
I used an industrial strength contact adhesive called “Welder” to mount them.
I’m sure epoxy, or even small screws could also be used.

Until I made those mods, I fought and fought with those cars on my hilly layout
with all the 8 foot diameter curves!
It would drive me crazy when they’d derail on straight track.

Thanks Ray

Finally getting some of our pictures posted from the trip to the Russell’s. Great hospitality and a great urban railroad and setting.
