Abandon Chicago!

I’m thoroughly enjoying my LAST Illinois winter storm. Tomorrow, when the temperature is 11 below (that’s -24C), I get into my little red car and drive to my new job in Broken Arrow Oklahoma. I figure on arriving sometime Tuesday.

The plan WAS to leave yesterday, when the temperature was 25 above, but so much for plans.

It may not be your last Winter storm.
I’m not sure where Broken Arrow is. But the western part of the state gets a lot of snow in the Winter.
As for Summer, the western part of the state is hot as h*ll.
Even though I had lived in Texas for several years, I saw my first tumble weed in Oklahoma

Drive Carefully Friend!

Yeah, but it’s a “dry” heat.

Yeah, between the winter storms and the summer tornadoes it should be an “interesting” place.

Being a refugee from Oklahoma. just a couple of thoughts. Watch for the ice storms but not a lot of snow in the winter. I don’t recall ever feeling the “dry heat” in the summers in Oklahoma. Also, find or construct a storm shelter when you get a place to live in Broken Arrow. They don’t call it tornado alley for nuthin’. Enjoy living in a small town and away from the big city (another advantage of Oklahoma - no city is big like Chicago, Washingtion, Atlanta pr LA).

Well, I like you abandoned the Chicago area many years ago. OKL is nice and in your area that you are going to is not bad. Mostly Ice if bad weather comes along but the Temps usually stay above freezing. I use to like visiting OKL and have spent a lot of time in that state. Enjoy. Later RJD

Tom,

Glad to hear you are coming this way. We need all the large scale folks we can get. You will only be about 1 1/2 hours from me. I am about 90 miles SW of Tulsa. By the way, it’s 10 degrees outside right now! Should get up to 30 or so tomorrow.

Bob

Tom, best of luck with the new job…

Tom, will you be coming to our winter meet in Carlysle?

Good luck in Broken Arrow Tom!! My wife and I had friends that lived there but subsequently moved back to California three years ago. We had the chance to visit them in Broken Arrow and while a beautiful place was not fond of the humidity.

Richard

Tom You will be a 2.5 hours from me, and if you drive through the St Louis way you will drive on I44 just 2 miles from me. In Mt Vernon Mo, half way between Springfield and Joplin.
Good Luck on your job, There is a G scale model club there.
Be Safe
Dennis

Good luck with the move and have a safe trip.

HI Tom

Glad to see your still around trains.

Good Luck in you New Job.

JJ in AZ

Good luck, Tom. Oklahoma gets some weather extremes, but nothing like Chicago.

Sorry I missed this post, Tom…

Hope travels have been safe… You’re just that closer to JJ and me here in AZ…

It’ll be 60 and sunny here today… Grins…

Tom,

Have safe move, be careful.

Don

Dennis: Yes! I drove past Mt Vernon on I44 this morning.

Getting the car ready, unburied and de-iced, in that blasting wind, would you believe I got overheated and had to go in, peel clothes off and lay down a while to cool down?

I55 and I44 yesterday were treacherous! Cars and trucks beside the road everywhere and I could well understand how they got there. I was going down a long hill on I44 on solid ice and found myself thinking, “I’m not sure I’m in control of this car.” Got here about 1:00 today without incident, just slow going.

I have kin in the area. Dad was from Tulsa and his sister stayed in the area, Clairmore, actually. I have cousins around Tulsa.

Imagine this: Torby in black shoes, dress pants, a shirt and a tie! Shocking, eh? Ok, I had to go down to the motel office this afternoon, so I went barefoot. Warm and sunny today, though the locals disagree on the “warm” part. “Hey, I just got in from the ice planet of Hoth. This is beach weather!”

That is almost unbelievable… We may need images to prove that it’s really true…

Glad you arrived safely, Tom… It HAS been a treacherous storm…

Hey Tom at least you didn’t have to find out how bad a Taun-Taun smells on the inside…

Glad you made it safely.
