Abandon Chicago!

Imagine this: Torby in black shoes, dress pants, a shirt and a tie! Shocking, eh?

That is almost unbelievable… We may need images to prove that it’s really true…

Glad you arrived safely, Tom… It HAS been a treacherous storm…

Be careful what you ask for! I have photographic evidence.

You can’t see in the photo, but the shoes have strange proportions. The upper is very tall and the sole is very soft, though they approach dress shoes at first glance. Supposedly I can wear them all day without developing a limp, though ibuprofen may be needed.

I just can beleive they won’t let you work bare footed, and in bibs!

Don

(We’ll work toward that, but always best to overdress on the first day.)

Crap! Didn’t recognize that guy…

ibuprofen nuts! I’m sticking a bottle of naproxin in my gadget bag. I think I’ll tell the shoe designer, “you have the toes wide enough, but the upper needs to be higher yet.” I’ve worn them for a few hours at a time before, but all day is going to take some getting used to and some stronger meds. Fortunately, tennis shoes and jeans seem to be the norm.

The developer I’ll be working with directly is out till Monday, so they set me down with a copy of the program and the user manual. The program looks like stuff I was writing 17 years ago, except not as sophisticated. I also don’t think the original designer knew what “First Normal Form” is.

Good luck in the new job, Tom, from another windy city these days!

75 and sunny today with a breeze. Nope, I don’t miss Chicago weather yet!

I always enjoyed OK and the weather. Have fun. Later RJD

alas, Babylon…

You can always tell folks form the North as they wear shorts and sandals in 40 degree weather. I guess for a while Tom you may fall into that category. Later RJD

On one of my PCS moves while in the Navy, we stopped for fuel in Yuma, AZ, in February, 1983. We were traveling from Portsmouth Va to Sandy Eggo, with a 2 week stopover in freezing, snowy St Louis MO. The temperature was 92F. The locals were all wearing sweaters and jackets. I was sweating profusely, gasping for air.

It was a dry heat.

Fall into that category?

The afternoon I reached Broken Arrow, it was 45 and sunny as I unloaded the car. People thought it odd that I was barefoot. “I just got in from the ice planet of Hoth. We head for the beaches at this temperature!”

Tom, I left Illinois (Chicago area) for good in August and now nicely settled in the nation’s oldest city-St. Augustine. I do not miss the winters. Safe travels to you and good luck on the new career.
