Anything I can fit into in this country new is 30K plus...:( I don't call that cheap or affordable. I imagine the Caravan will be gone in a year or two, but the F150 will have to be "until death do us part". And the supposed KIA as an affordable car...is the biggest pile of junk there is on the roads.
No, 30K doesn't fit my definition of cheap and affordable, either. However, I can think of worse vehicles to be stuck with than an F150.

Our son-in-lawā€™s new Kia Rio had to have the gearbox replaced. A part was left out at the factory, and that omission resulted in irreparable damage. The only good thing was that the dealer did track the problem down and the warranty was honoured.

A friend of ours works for Kia. One of his jobs is to certify that parts delivered to the factory meet specifications. A year or so ago, a shipment of air bags came through that wasnā€™t up to scratch, and he reported it. Rather than shut down the assembly line, the Korean factory manager ordered the bags to be fitted anyway.

Iā€™ve driven our son-in-lawā€™s Kia and donā€™t mind it. However, Iā€™ve never needed the air bag!

Vic,

For all I know itā€™s probably the wrong colour.

Hmmmm.

THe newest vehicle I have is my '98 Dodge Ram pickup. I still drive a '65 Mustang coupe, and have just poured $1300 into updating my '79 Olds 98. Except for paint, which is next, I have a brand new '79 Olds 98.

My wife sees them as ā€œold cars,ā€ fit only for the junkyard, but I see them as ā€œclassics,ā€ worthy of maintaining. She, btw still drives a '96 Geo, and wonā€™t let go of it, so go figure.

So tell meā€¦how did this thread go from houses to carsā€¦??

They both pollute.

Only if you leave the bathroom door open, or is that outhouse door, or... oh, nevermind :D

I can understand why someone like yourself, hanging on to cars for decades, would be in the minority in a country where new cars are so affordable. What's wrong with an Impala?
It's part of the General Misunderstanding family of fine recycle material. My 50 Tudor, 440 air conditioning, NO power steering, brakes or windows to fail and need work. No automatic slush buckets to need repair. We took the Tudor on all the vacations. Over half a million miles on her. And, the vacuum wipers still work, the 5-tube super-het radio works, the electric-wind clock works, all of it.

Henry was first, Henry was right, and the only mistakes he made were not SHOOTING Louis Chevrolet, the Dodge Brothers, and Walter P. Chysler when he fired them!

This is LSC! What else would you expect...we talk about trains?? :D

ā€¦and many other thingsā€¦

THEY ALL POLUTEā€¦get a good 18 speed bicycleā€¦

Got a 15-speed Schwinn Super Continetal, had it for about 45 years and got it used.
Unfortunately, the back wonā€™t allow me to ride it anymore.

Rain drops keep falling on his headā€¦

18 speed? when I started mountain biking they all came with 21 gears, now there up to 27! 3 in the front ring, 9 on the rear cog!

Now I see quite a few roadies sporting triple rings on their front cranks as well!

Iā€™ve had three rings on my crank for 30 years.

That didnā€™t come out right, lemme try again.

The crank on my bike has had three rings for 30 years.

There, thatā€™s better. Not much better, but better.

Gadzookusā€¦10 pages??? Is this a record???

Is this a record?..Is this a record?..Is this a record?

Yup. A stuck one.

We could probably get to 20 if we change the topic 4 or 5 more times :o

I donā€™t remember what we were discussing about the 2 housesā€¦

Houses to cars to bikes, i know itā€™s an insane idea, but if we switch the topic to trains, we might keep this one going for another 10 pages
