Large Scale Central

A Station / Freighthouse Build

@ Steve…I have decided to go with cedar shakes…will be alot of work tho. So I was able to do some more today…the 4 letter word called work has been getting in the way as of lately. Got some more windows built.

All the window and door trim painted.

And the first two windows installed.

Love those windows!

Nice Randy !

Yeah me too…I have seen 4 over 2 but 6 over 2 is a very odd combination …nice

I’ve found that gutter flashing gives a very good impression of a metal roof. Don’t know if CP had them, but they sure are easy to install. Measure a piece of flashing, cut it with tin snips, silicone it down, or if you want it removable, cement magnets in hidden places, then drop the roof!

Okay today I had to switch from building windows. So I did the 4 man-doors with transoms and the 2 pairs of freight doors. If the exterior frames look a little wide that’s because they fit in a rabbet behind the door and window trim boards. Also have to paint the freight doors.

Edit to say the man-doors in the pic are upside down.

I would have sworn that station had a few Dutch Double Doors Randy?

And the first freight doors installed.

I switched it up again today…preparing the roof for cedar shakes. Since they have no taper in them I needd to raise up the first course to allow the next course to lay flat so I milled up some tapered cedar strips.

And then started glueing them on the roof edges.

Did cedar shakes on a Lionel engine house…That’s a lot of work!!!

Looking great!

LOL…Nice!

You need a moisture shield under them shingle’s with a flashing on the ends and valleys! In Copper!

Yes Rooster there will be a proper moistrue shield and all of the appropriate flashing.

Hey we don’t wanna see Rooster or Randy flashing! This is a family site!!!

Good choice with the cedar shingles Randy. Will be worth the work.

That oughta keep ya occupied till spring…

Well I finally got all the doors and windows built and installed. I also put on the roof trim, gave the plywood sub-roof several heavy coats of spar varnish for added waterproofing and started the cedar shingles Track-side passenger end.
