A Simulated Caboose Gazeebo

Neat project Andy, glad I found it.

Time to head over to the local sign shop and get some large vinyl letters? :D
Bruce, not yet... Paint is only covering the OSB board... just trying to cover it before winter... I didn't get that done last year...

Am still looking at what type of siding material to put on it… I want to make it look like it has a metal covering that was put on with rivets… Have priced some 18 & 20 guage metal 4x8 ft or 5X10 ft sheets… about 2.30 bucks a square foot…

Jerry, thanks, it is a neat project… By doing it this way, I can make it what I want…

Wow…that would be even neater.

Andy - You can buy .040 styrene in 4x8 sheets., but I’m thinking embossed rivets might not work in this scale. Screw caps might simulate rivets.

hmmm, now, there's a thought... wonder how the styrene would hold up on the caboose... hmmmmmmmm

I’m hoping to use Square headed self-tapping screws, to hold the sheet metal, and hope it looks like rivets…

Dad…another thought and a poor mans way would be sheet the sides with roll roofing or tar paper then use them u-channel garden fencing posts(the green ones) to go over the seams. That would give your wavy steel look and your rivet seams …don’t know how the tar paper would take paint though?

Upholstery tacks might make better rivets Andy, and Black styrene may all be UV resistant. Plastruct’s is
below is just a picture of what I’m talking about. I Do Not have any affiliation with the company.

Yeah, Upostery tacks might look good, but I think the screws would hold better, and not have a tendency to back out…

Son, I want a rather clean sheet metal look to the sides…

Andy, you might be able to get aluminum coil stock wide enough. It comes various colors but it is always white on one side.

I don’t see a smoke jack…when does the pot-bellied stove go in?..

( Coffee pot has to sit on sumthin,)

a coffee pot??? whatever fer???

hmmm, Dan, now there’s an idea…

I like Dan’s idea better than mine. The styrene would not be UV stable unless painted. Styrene would also tear rather easily if anything ever struck it. The Aluminum might bend or crease if the hit wasn’t too bad.

Paint looks good, Andy. It kind of pulled it all together.

Wow Andy that is really starting to look good. I think I like your man cave over my shelter.

Andy,

It’s been a while…how’s it going on the ol Gazeebo?

Brian, it’s actually be on hold for a while… Had a few more important things to get done…

Caboose is basically in the same shape as to the last pictures… It “'wintered”" with the tar paper on the roof… Most of the tar paper is now ripped, or has blown off…

I have in mind a metal siding material to do the roof in, providing the metal siding will bend… That still has to be tested before ordring iit…

Hopefully, things will get back on track this summer…

Right now, we’re trying to get ready for an open railroad tour weekend, next weekend, and have another ““Operations”” session June 1 & 2… Hopefully, after 2 June, will have more time to spend on the caboose…

Thanks for asking…

Get Ric to test it over your head!

Thanks Andy,

I really like what you’ve done and will hopefully build something similar down the road.

I’ll patiently await more updates, and can’t wait to see it complete.
