Large Scale Central

A Raised Road Bed: A build log for the RGS raised layout.

I thought modeling backsides was my job? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Looks great Ken.

As for parking a sleeper and needing to access the tail; just adds a little more work to the job which in our world is a good thing (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

@Ric - Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it to Ken’s. I hope you can make Bob’s. Don’t know if I can go two years without seeing you and Jan

Jon,

I agree. Those early seminar days at York came back to mind this past weekend. We also ate on the east side of the diner and I think the last time we did that was with you guys and Matt, back in the “smoking section” days. Remember how smokey that was? Anyway, trying to balance all events and getting caught on some schedules. We try to do our best.

Ken’s layout is very impressive with a great deal of improvements and completion, since last year. He has really advanced the ideas of operations on a garden railroad. Look forward to operating on it, again. Sunday was just a little cool.

I think the waitress asked me ‘Would you like a side of ashes with that Fried Shrimp?’ (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Guess I’m not too senile; I can still remember that dinner and what I ordered. It was a great time. Oh yeah; the ECLSTS Ops seminars. What got me started and what eventually connected me to you, Fred and all the rest of this great bunch on LSC.

Good memories. With Gary Buchanan wearing his ISLSMR Founding Member Shirt (yes, I was suppose to bring mine) and eating on that side of the diner, I started reflecting back on all of the years. A man came by the “Timesaver” and gave me a message from his daughter, that she was sorry she couldn’t make it this year to run trains. Wow! How thoughtful.

Maybe “TimeSaver” is the correct name. Never thought of it as a way to file away memories and reflect on all the friends and events. Here’s one. Does anyone else remember when Hooter’s burned? That was early days, before the standard of meals at the diner. And then there was Fred and Female Bowling Convention and Carl’s Tuba Concert in the bar. Okay, not of all of the memories are so great. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Talk about hijacking a thread, sorry Ken.

I’m enjoying it…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Maybe there should be an old timers ECLSTS Nostalgia thread. Fred should start with the story of how the evening get together started. I remember one or two Rodent Parties - I might even have a sign from the first one I attended. ECLSTS was well established in York when I started attending.

Thanks Ken. The Depot is looking really good. Can’t wait to see it planted in a month.

We had one, but the old timers forgot to go.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

It does look good. Sure hope we have nice weather for Ken’s Op Session (probably needs a catchier name - RGS Operations???) (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Give you guys something to do between now and then…think of a catchier name…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

If you’re going to keep “RGS Ops”, it should probably at least be “RGS East Ops”.

Could also go with something like “KB Ops”…which you COULD pronounce as “Kay Bops” (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Or shorten it to Kops. He is in the Keystone state, after all…

Whatever you guys decide on, is fine with me…I’m not all that imaginitive…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Some major excavation work going on in Porter:

I figured I do this while the dirt was still wet. That way it comes out in a clump and doesn’t spill all over the place.

The scoop took it right down to bare screen.

Started undoing the track and road bed and moving it over, and placed more road bed up to the new switch location.

Next up was tying in the track.

After much cutting a fitting, the track work is now done and the depot situated.

Once the dirt dries out a bit, I’ll start back filling.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, nothing like Spring Planting… Looks good, Ken… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looking good. I like your method for handling roadbed under switches. Mine is too complicated.

I like to keep it supported under all the rails with a block under the switch throw to keep it stable.

Are you sure those end of track devices are strong enough for you and Jon ?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I like “KOPS”, simple and to the point. I heard people try make something out of ECLSTS and to me “YORK” works best.

I have some bricks under the layout I can put out there if I need them…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Made a pretty good dent in the pile of dirt…

A couple of thyme’s and an arborvitae I picked at the Train Show.
