I think I’m making this a bit more complicated then it has to be…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
But as modelers, isn’t that what we do? Over think, over-design, and then search for an easier way.
Or is that just me and Devon.

Sure looks that way…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Theres a word for that condition you know, its called Devoning. Ken is devoning the hell out of these fake rocks.
And no I avoid the easy way at all costs. If I can do it easier and cheaper by buying what I need I will spend twice as much and take twice as long to redesign it and build it myself only to realize the store bought one was better and buy it anyway.
Hate to admit it, but you might be right…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
You might try latex molds from Bragdon Enterprises. I have a number of these molds, the largest is 2x3. They are designed to be used with plastic polymer, but I use mortar with 1/4 inch square galvanized screen for strength.
I’ve thought about that, too, Jim. I used to make my own molds with that Latex rubber mold material years ago. Used cheesecloth to strengthen them. I’m kind of liking this alum. foil method since I always wanted to try it and I can form it into any size or texture I want. It’s been giving me the result I’m looking for, too. But I will keep that in mind.
Not wanting to let this nice weather go to waste and to get this thing out of the shop, I started installing the bridge that connects the two modules.
Had to do a bit of realigning for the approach from Mancos.
This will lift out to get the lawn tractor inside the layout.
Nice Ken,
always have to have a way to get equipment to the inside. Is the one section narrower as well as shorter or is that just the perspective of the picture?
Mixed bridges (to me) always have more interest than one giant long span all the same.
I built those for my original layout from Garden Texture plans for 2 separate areas. One span crossed a stream and was on a curve, so it needed to be longer and wider. The other was one just crossed a low spot.
Those were from 20 some years ago…
You better hurry up Ken. The clock is ticking and snow will be flying soon. Looks good.

Thanks.
Ahhh, but it ain’t flyin yet…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Ken, just curious. How much maintenance have you needed to apply to keep the bridges functioning? And what finish did you use ?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Most of the maintenance has been tightening up the nut’s on the all thread that keeps it together. The finish is a Minwax product called Jacobean, it’s just a dark colored stain over the pressure treated wood I built them from. Since they never completely sat on the ground, but usually on a footer of some kind, they’ve held up pretty well over the years. They’ve been outside continuously since I built them for my first layout in the late '90’s.
they also seem to be a bit heavy on the timbers. nice to know how they fared and what helped. Thank you (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

After a week of windy, rainy weather, the sun finally made an appearance. So I took advantage of it and worked on the bridge.
Got the track back down and the switch in. It still needs some supports leading up to it, but the hard part is out of the way.
A retaining wall on each side and a few trestle bents.
There’s a few minor kinks in it, but the wind picked up and the temps dropped…again… so enough of that.
Updates Ken. Its been to nice out to sit around the fire. I know you got more work done…

It has been. Probably hit it with the leaf blower and get some of the sticks & twigs off it. At the moment I waiting for my neighbor to patch the hole in my compressor’s air tank so I can finish up some trestle bents for the bridge. Working on the depot too.
Okay, an update:
Took the depot for Porter out to the layout to see what it would look like.
Still have a whole lot more to do on it, detail-wise.
