Rich, There is no way I can come anywhere near being responsible for thoses pictures, as much as I would like to have something close to what Ken has. Maybe one of these days after Devon has his all together I will start an artilce on the building of mine

Pete, so we will see the start of yours in 2019?

Still looking for the lawn chair…

It’s blurry, but it’s there Cliff, just to the left of the engine in the last picture…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks for the continued updates, Ken. I feel like you really have carried out the ideas we spoke of, over a year ago, and you’ve really made 2016 a very productive year for your railroad.

Thanks Ric. I can look at it and see a few things that I might change, but, all in all, I’m very happy with how this turned out.

Took a run down to the Garden Center in Hockessin and found they had some perennials 50% and 70% off. I picked up some New England Astors, Black-Eyed Susans and something called a Sneezeweed. When I saw them I thought they’d look good in front of the layout.

Left to right: Black Eyed Susan, New England Astor, Sneezeweed, (I kid you not, that’s what it’s called.)

And a couple of Sedums and an IcePlant.

Shouldn’t be any problem hooking up some misters for all that…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Its your turn Pete, I am making to much progress now, the sharks are getting hungry for someone to devour.

I like the planters and edge gardens. Will add some interest to your pictures. The whole project is really looking good.

I may need to wait until I retire to start the raised section I planned last winter. By the time I get home from working two jobs I have no energy left for projects. I haven’t even run a train all summer. Weekends have been taken up with non-railroad projects like recovering my RV from a mouse infestation, fixing a water heater in the house and keeping up with repairs on the boat. Now that it’s cool enough to work outside in the evening it’s dark in less than an hour after I get home.

Yea, it sucks doesn’t it?

I’ve also been experimenting with “Hypertufa” which is a mixture of cement, perlite and spaghnum peat moss trying to make rock forms to hide or blend in the planter boxes. The molds are crumpled up aluminum foil. I haven’t quite got the look I want yet, but it’s kinda fun messing around with it.

My biggest problem is deciding which engine I want to run…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ken, I used the same method to mold plaster. I found that I have to remove the foil from the plaster while its still green, and do a little bit of carving to correct and enhance the detail a bit.

Depending on how much I crumple up the foil the detail’s been fine. It’s getting all the bubbles out I’m having a problem with, but I can work around that. What I need to get is some fine mesh wire screen that I can use to make a form.

Why dont you take a trip north. I have plenty of rock you can have. Then you dont need to make them. By the way the plants will really bring everything together. looks great.
