Large Scale Central

A Raised Road Bed: A build log for the RGS raised layout.

I was wrong. It’s Marge-in-charge and Linda.

SO happy it wasn’t Mel and Todd…

One more thing out of the way.

That round thingamajig is what Rooster was referring too:

I was kinda hoping you would use the Saab upper bearing cap on the T.T rebuild. You know I have a fetish for recycling junk like that!

It may be a bit more sturdy then what is currently in use; (a piece of pipe and and end cap) Workin on that Roos…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I also got another roll of roofing for the roads. That will help cut down on the dirt splash.

Turntable looks great Ken… Layout really looks good… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

The cracks in the ground look like a drought has hit the railroad. As Andy said, the turntable and layout looks great!

It dries out in between thunder storms…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Part 8 has been added:

Looking good Ken. I thought it would be all done by now. Dont let the hot weather slow you down. Before you know it snow will be falling.

Basically it is done, it’s just a matter of filling in all the little details. And there’s no rush with that. I’m just sitting back and enjoying it at the moment…BTW, you can have your pink hat back…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

You have really come a long way this summer. Stellar progress since spring. The ground cover entirely upgrades the appearance. Nothing better than coming up with a new technique and seeing it through to completion!

It HAS to work. You don’t have a fall-back plan.

Anyway, it sure looks good and I’m confident it WILL hold up.

Looking great Ken. Hope to get down there to see and run it some day.

Bruce and I were talking about that up at Stan’s. The PA version of “TrainOps” maybe some time in the spring, late April or May. Now, Whether the layout could handle 5 or 6 or more operators at one time is something I’ll have to work on. I’m pretty sure I have enough cars for that, it’s just a matter if there’s enough room to handle all that. I think it would be fun to find out.

One more thing out of the way. An LED fluorescent-looking light fixture.

Attached a few more signs

Looking good, Ken! How are you making your signs?

I print them out on that sticky vinyl from Papilio, then stick them on a peice of plastic or plexiglass, then overlay them with the clear UV protected vinyl, then a couple of coats of clear flat spray.

Another thing done (that Rooster was so worried about):

Bearing cap attached to the TT.

And added some more rolled roofing in the Porter area.

That is freaking awesome, Ken…I want to sit in that lawn chair under the tree with my drawing paper and ink, watching trains and smoking my meerschaum and drinking pop, for a whole week, day and night.

That’s exactly what I did today, minus the drawing paper and ink and smoking a meerschaum …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The layout is looking great! Nice work on the TT. Can’t wait to see it in person.

Bob

Thanks, Bob. I would be honored to have you.

Wow! Great work Ken… BUT I am mad, read the first page, saw all the build log links, so read through all 8 pages of that, then come back here and read them all again, with witty, sarcastic, evil annd mean remarks added. That killed half a day!

On the raised sections I read you were not doing any skirting , I guess that will help with air flow to keep all the PT lumber from staying wet. Do you have much of a problem with critter there, and creepy crawlys, especially the poisonous kind like black widows? Thanks for all the information , it has me thinking about non ground level for my empire.
