A Raised Road Bed: A build log for the RGS raised layout.

Mine is the same as yours, probably close to the same year. Tires are bald, solenoid starter relay done quit (I jump start it) and the mower deck is falling apart but it still runs great. It got a new lease on life for this year; a neighbor ran his 2 year old Poulan out of oil and killed the engine. The rest is like new. When he found out it was over a grand to fix it he just scraped it. I heard it was going to be junked and all the parts are identical to mine so I grabbed it for free. Just need to pull the motor from mine and drop it in. Plan on doing that before grass cutting season.

This one has a new engine, or at least a newer one then it came with. The spark plug fouls up about once a month,The deck’s been bolted together numerous times where weld’s have failed, which kept me from getting it level or keeping belts from fraying, new battery, new front tires, new clutch mechanism for the mower, and other assorted nickel and dime stuff over the years. But it still works and I’m too cheap to buy a new one.

Went out and did some figuring today. Some guys have asked about this.

Total mainline 172’

Delores Yard: 49’

3 trax 24’

1 track 36’

Delores Depot track to Int: 29’

Int: 5 trax 70’ approx.

Delores -Mancos: 19’

Mancos: 27’

Mancos-Hesperus: 15’

Hesperus: 30’

Hesperus-Porter:12’

Return Loop: 30’

The mainline I counted as track that passes in front of the Stations.

And each station has a run around track.

That doesn’t take into account the sidings.

Recalculate with the sidings or your figures are useless!

Gee, then I don’t feel so bad. My railroad is around 150 feet long or so, and yours is only 172 feet (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

And I have exactly 0 feet in sidings and 0 feetses in run arounds. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif).

I might…when it stops rainin…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Dave, I still have one more town to build yet.

Ken, I have 3 towns to build. Someday I just might get started building them.

Fooling around on Google Earth, I found this:

Taken last Sept.

I felt a real presence of being watched while running at your railroad. I agree, you are on a “Watch List”. Probably has something to do with your friends.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I wouldn’t doubt it…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Judging by the shadows, it looks like around 10 or 11AM.

Got some framing done for Porter.

Then ate lunch and got the C19 out to play…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

All fixed.

Ken,

Ooops, moved it to another album and forgot to change it up there.

Keep on postin’ these updates. They keep me motivated to get started on my elevated section. I have lots of work to do on the ground level RR first. but hopefully I’ll be able to get started by summer. I need to use that box of track I brought home from York (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-money-mouth.gif)

That’s funny, Jon. Now that I have the roundy round part done, I’m less motivated to work on it and would rather run a train…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Had Motor 1 out yesterday and since it’s so light, it helps find places where there’s binding when going through switches. It’s less noticeable with the heavier engines. I spent a few hours working on that.

Ken, yes, once a train can run, I want to run trains instead of work on certain things. But isn’t that kind of the point? We do this so we can run trains.

Amen to that!

*not trying to be religious. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

True that. The same thing happens to me when working on locos. Once they are to the point they can be run, final detailing gets put of ifn favor of seeing it go. My Porter ran for 4 years with a temporary front coupler and no pilot or rear coupler. Finally got motivated to finish it, Well, almost, still needs a cut lever on the rear.

I won’t be able to get anything done on it anyway since I’m heading to Branson on Tuesday for about a week. But I do want to get the Wye in once I get back.

Why!(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)
