Large Scale Central

A Raised Road Bed: A build log for the RGS raised layout.

What??? You want some more??

Haven’t had anything significant to report.

Actually I’m waiting on an order from RLD on more tie strips. Kinda ran out…

Something tells me Ken lost the hat…hes slowing down.

Sorta/Kinda…been a little busy with other matters…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Got a bit done…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Wile I’m waiting for an order of tie strips, I’ve built a couple of bump outs that will have the buildings a place to sit.

And started on extending the layout to the next town.

Hang tight Ken, rumor has it those strips are on their way. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Looks like your making good use of time while you wait. Looks like you might not even have to back fill this section with dirt the way those pine needles are falling. I’m really jealous of you retired guys. I’m reduced to working on the weekends now since it’s dark by the time I get home.

I don’t get a chance to work on it as often as I’d like, but I’m grateful for the nice weather we’ve been having so far. Got a lot more done on it then I thought I would. And thanks for ordering those tie strips for me. That’s much appreciated.

It could be worse. It could be under the Magnolia tree. You probably couldn’t see the layout if it was…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks to Randy, I’ve been resupplied with more tie strips. Got the switch in at the lower end of Hesperus and the track tied into it.

Beautiful day to work on it, too.

Dang if that ain’t really moving along. Looking good Ken. It appears to have gained a good bit of length over the old layout.

I used up all the ladder roadbed that was on the old layout back in Mancos. So judging by that since there wasn’t a whole lot of scraps I’d say this one will be about twice the size. I’ll have to take out a tape measure and get an approx. length.

And if this nice weather keeps holding out, I should be able to get down to the end of the tree line.

I’ve also been tweaking the JMRI software. For some reason it doesn’t want to move a lot of cars, so that’s something else I have to work on.

Nice progress, Ken… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Well one nice thing about the new layout …When you have an ops session you will know who was really working and who was leaning on the trees. Napkins, hotdog rolls and many other things don’t mix well with pine sap come lunch time.

Looking good Ken. In JMRI, take a look at the build log for a train. It’s tedious reading, but it will tell you why cars didn’t move. Usually a minor oversight in setting up sidings or something like that keeps the cars from moving.

very nice Ken!

Yea Jon, that was my next move. That and going through some of the posts that went back and forth about this stuff when we first started on it. I know it’s probably something really simple and if I’d backed up the old layout program it would just be a matter of changing a few things. Another little issue is in “Preview” mode, I can’t get the Manifest looking like it did in the other set up with the Logo up in the corner and the different colors for set outs and pick ups.

But with all this nice weather we’ve been having for the middle of November, all that took a back burner…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Nice to see more progress. I told mother nature to hold off on winter so you can get more work done. You should be good for a while yet…
