Large Scale Central

A new depot

That should work. They did a curved porch roof across the street from me when they remodeled. It was interesting to see how it is done in the 1:1 world. It really isn’t a true curve, but lots of angular steps. They run rafters at a normal angle, then build it up on top with wedges before laying the roof deck. Similar to what I did on my platform build, but I only did one step. I did it a little backwards from real world - I attached the wedges to the deck first and then attached that to the rafters…

I remembered that build of yours Jon, and that was another technique I was going to try. This way with the PVC seems a bit easier…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ya think? Yup - I’d go with your method and be done before spring (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Is it done yet Ken? Thats looking great so far. I have to admit you get me hooked on using those signs for buildings. My last two were done this way although not as fancy.

It’s been too nice out to spend time inside working on it, but I do need some more coroplast, so I’m waiting till after the election to build up my supply. Problem is a lot of the new signs are like a plastic bag-type sleeve that fits over a frame. But I got my eye on a few that might work…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I hate those new baggy signs. Working in the parks Im always taking them since they are not allowed on state lands hehe

Ken

If the method Randy suggested doesn’t work out. Get yourself a coro cutter and split the seams.

Don’t want anybody thinking I’m “Devoning” this thing, so here’s an update:

The sides of the Depot are all together, still working on the freight end of it. Which is the Colorado Models Structures “Virginia Mills Station” building.

This is turning out to be a bit bigger than I anticipated, So I may have to make the platform larger.

This Ken guy is sick for sure!

Look he has a clean work bench … geeeese

Looking good Ken

yes, all this free space around that build is irritating.

but the build itself is coming along very good.

Don’t get too overly excited, gentlemen, I just cleaned it off a bit to take the pictures…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

It doesn’t normally look like that.

Don’t they always end up bigger then we thought they would be?

We could just call it neat. That wouldn’t be quite as bad?

Don’t you mean, “Hens’ work”?

Ken, will you use the Coroplast for the roof base? or something stronger. Just picked up a bunch of big election signs, and looking at build methods. Keep the pictures coming… faster lol

Yea, Pete, coroplast will be used for the roof too. I usually brace it with a few 1/2" square pieces to give it a bit of strength and weight.

Cheater using a CO Model building. Short cuts are not allowed(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Looking good Ken. You got me hooked on the coroplast. It is so much easier to work with.

I think it may take me all winter to figure out all the different angles on the roof, so one little shortcut isn’t going to hurt.

Don’t thank me, thank Jon. He’s the one that was supplying all this stuff that they were throwing away from the sign shop he works for. I had never even heard of the stuff till Jon showed up at the train show with a whole trunk load of the stuff. And I think it was either Bruce or Rooster that was using it before I was. I don’t usually come up with new ideas, I just steal them…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
