Large Scale Central

A new depot

that is a building, i would like to have on my layout. - aplause!

Great looking project , maybe one day i’ll give a building a try . I do need a new train station . Is the building weather proof or do you take it in when not in use ?

It’s built from the same material the other buildings are built with, so it should withstand the elements around here.

With election season upon us and campaign signs hither and you, (more coroplast) time to start again on this project.

I thought I’d try something different and paint the siding before applying it. And applying it before the building gets built.

Painting the windows was much easier without the siding.

Looks like a nice one in the making.

Chris

Ken, that’s really looking great!!

Couple questions fer ya…

Where did you get those vac-formed doors / windows, and what plastic are they?

Is that Trex for the foundation, or…? And what adhesive did you use for those planks?

As I recall, the Precision siding is styrene, and the Coroplast is polypro. What kind of adhesive do you use between?

Looks like for some larger walls you ran your siding “grain” perpendicular to that of your CP backer, for strength I assume, nice!

Thanks, awesome job!!

Thanks guys.

The doors, windows and siding are all Precision Products veneer that I get from Ozark Miniatures.

I use Goop as the adhesive. The corners inside the building get 3/4" square PVC for strength and as an extra gluing surface.

The way the “grain” runs usually depends on how big a piece I have to cut since this stiff I get in 2’x3’ pieces.

The station platform is 4 6" wide PVC boards glued together.

Looks like it’s coming along nicely Ken did you cut the siding long enough to cover the edges when glued together, or are you going to run trim there.

“Just an FYI, the original station still exists in Ridgeway. It has been turned into a private residence, moved and turned 90 degrees. The freight section is gone and a 2 car garage has been added.”

That’s a cool bit of info. Really enjoy those re-purposed railroad buildings. Did you get the address? Sounds like a reason enough for a road trip.

Never thought to get an address, but I did get a picture.

Ken

That is really a very nice structure, That will enhance your layout when it gets installed.

I may have missed it, and if you have said, forgive me, what is the base with the slots on the bottom side made of?

Is your shingles the precision products sheets?

Ken, keep up the good work.

I would love to have a home like that.

The base with the slots, I guess you’re referring to is coroplast, looks like corrugated cardboard. Yea, the roof will be some form of Precision Products roofing.

Sweet Ken! This is an awesome pick and build. I figure winter should drive you in long enough for you to finish it up for the spring. Any ideas how you are going to do the rounded portions of the bottom platform roofs? Lookin’ good.

I think Dennis may be talking a bout this picture. The base under the building. That is PVC trim “board” available at the big box stores. It also come solid without the slots. I just trimmed round all the outsides of our windows with it. Great stuff.

Very cool project! My hat’s off you, for tackling such an interesting/complex structure.

I have no idea…yet. But I have been running a few thoughts through my head about that. I was just going to wait till I had all the sides put together, then try a few things.

Ah, I forgot about that picture. That is Trimplank, a PVC board used for trim. It also comes in a 1 1/2" thick piece, which we just used to trim around the nerw garage door.

The corners will get a brown trim.
