Large Scale Central

A bit of a preview of what's coming

Hi all,

One of the German clubs listed some of the New Items of the Nürnberg Toy Fair 07

http://www.lgb-rheinsieg.de/de/neuigkeiten_spwm07.htm

As predicted, it looks like a bunch of repaints to me.

Well , how prejudice can blind people . There are at least four new items there , I’ve had them on order since November .

Early days. :)

Mike, if you have had them on order since November they can’t be new to the range then can they?

Of course, Mike is correct.
How blind.
But, then, I couldn’t tell as no specific scale was listed, nor a scale ruler in each photograph.

And, it is hard to tell on that wood car…protoype photos don’t quite convey the model, and vice versa.
The glass cases are a new twist.
Real easy to see exactly what’s there.
Looks like a repaint 2085D, a re-issue of the already-released Forney, another WP&Y dismal, same sort cars, long cars, drover’s caboose and passenger cars with…new paint.

The Steiff Bear car is a real whiner…I mean winner.

Glacier Express…ho-hum.
Wismar railtruck…wasn’t that what they called them?
Looks like it got a nose job.

Good thing I only posted the link and let everyone have at it.

BTW that railcar set is so “new” someone remembered that it was “NEW” in 2000 and someone posted a picture of one running on his layout, complete with the drawback of the trailer car not having directional lighting.

Of course very recently we had a discussion with a contractor who mentioned that Avocado Green and Harvest Gold is starting to make a comeback in appliances and accessories.

Hohum on that GlacierExpress diner from me, too; and more Hohum on a bunch of other repaints. OTOH I’ve been in this LS bit since 1999 and I have gotten used to what “New” can mean or is sold as and I’m all in favour of recycling.

I’m also looking forward to the next installment of “Spin cycles” on Sunday.

And new stickers for their ICE train…to make it look like an LRV. :frowning: The White Pass might interest me if it’s a reissue of the old 2050 without decoder or sound…at a reasonable price…$500.00…NOT!

Tony , The problem is , I am so thick and backward , it takes time for things to get through to me . So they will be new when I see them .

Mike (age 3 )

Sometimes I wonder if it is a sound business decision to produce new products EVERY year. How can any large scale company manage to recoup the cost of the molds if G scale trains in general aren’t selling that well. If you read the various forums on the internet it seems like it is a small close knit fraternty of the same names on all of them. If I were a good businessman I would be looking for something to sell that would sell to more than just a small group of cranky old men! Perhaps that’s what put EPL into the dumpster in the first place - catering to the vocal minority!

From what I hear and read the people in the industry point to other reasons for the EPL insolvency, of course it is possible that all of them haven't got a clue. ;) :D

And the '07 LGB Items might only be wishful thinking!

The EPL Factory is silent without a stir at the moment.

How do you know this?
Another “reliable source”?

Where did you get that idea?

I was just there a few days ago dropping off an item for repair and what you could see of the production line was humming.

I guess you must have dropped by on Sunday.

Marvin,

That isn’t what I read/hear from several different sources … perhaps some sources are a bit more reliable than others. But I mentioned that before, didn’t I??

Perhaps some sources should keep their “goof-ups” to one a month, just to keep a semblance of credibility.

I heard from a “reliable” soource that the factory has been physically moved to China and EPL/LGB are going to be producing bicycles.
Oh, and Wolfgang Richter has been elected President , overseer and grand Poobah of the company!

Sheesh JJ, That must be from one of my “twice removed sources” who heard all of the above, with the addition of Wolfgang also being chief bicycle tester. You gotta admire the man, at his age still testing bicycles at full tilt! Not for him to be an old grump and discuss the relative (de)merits of Biggie Size Trains on the Internet. The other tidbit that makes the rounds is that the company will be renamed BGL (Beatific, Glorious and Lovely) and that BGL has first refusal on the spot in the Forbidden City that StarBucks most likely will have to vacate. That’s where the “Beatific, Glorious and Lovely” museum is supposed to go, very appropriate since bicycles are a large part of the Chinese scene.

I know this quote will get a lot of mileage, especially in this age of internet communications.

The edit bit with your name helps, too, I might add.

Shucks, if you want to put some spin on it, a “reliable” (cough - cough) source said that the new LGB just bought Aristocraft…

This post has not been edited by Warren Mumpower…yet!

Yeah, sure…but another one…not the other one.

But not being in Germany, I can only relay what was stated.

Unedited at any time.
