A bald eagle visit to the PCSRR

To share as posted on other sites.

About 11:30 this morning I noticed a very distinctive shape at the top of a low scrub tree in the BLM land 100 yards south of the layout. The magnificent bald eagle was scoping out the carcass of a dead Javelina. As I tried to get a bit closer for a better shot, he would have none of that…

What a majestic creature!!!

Hasta la vista, Baby

Nah… I scared him off and the cats stayed inside…

Very cool!

Living on lake erie we are getting more and more bald eagles. They are beautiful to watch. There is one that nests near my house. The best part is it has taken care of my woodchuck problem.

I was able to see one up close a few years back when I visited Alaska, there was one being rehabilitated due to it being shot in the beak. Amazing how big and beautiful they are.
I know the bird I had seen was set free back into the wild a little over a year ago, it was being cared for at the top of a mountain in Juneau.

Thanks for posting, Stan. Great pictures!

Great pix Stan. We’re seeing more of them around here every year.

Nice pics Stan. hanks for the post

Nice shots, Stan… You might make a great photographer one day…

Nice, I’m surprised to see Bald Eagles so far south, always thought of them as northern river birds.

Awesome photos Stan.
Must be a birding month for our railroads.

Have had a Kestrel land on top of the bird feeder stand just past the RR. Did not have snow on the ground about a week ago; when I went back to check the feeders - Pigeon feathers on the ground! Again, could have been a neighborhood cat who likes to lay under the Blue Spruce!! Have seen the Kestrel cruise over the RR about 7’ off the ground on a flight thru the backyards.

Wow. Used to have them fly over and scope out the pond now and then, but none ever landed.

Stan,

That’s one of ours that tired of his fish diet and wanted some pork.

They gather by the hundreds on nearby lakes this time of year for the Kokanee Salmon spawn.

Beautiful pic, BTW.

Good shots Stan.

One of our club members has a pond on his layout. He had fish until the flamingos discovered it.

No fish no more!

Nice pictures Stan.

The eagles gather every year in late December and early January by the hundreds at the east end of Lake Coeur d’Alene to feed on the Kokanne Salmon. We took our grandkids out this year and you could see then sitting in the trees right above you or flying right in front of you over the lake picking up fish. We had one land on a branch just above us about 20 feet away eating it’s catch. They are beautiful birds.

Great pics!

I actually saw a bald eagle in the San Diego area once. It was in El Cajon, sitting on a telephone pole, back in the late '70s.

My brother in Montana gets them all the time at his place.

If your ever in the Orlando Fl. area and driving west on 4, the power company has platforms on the tops of some of they’re high voltage lines. Every once in awhile driving through there I’d get a peek of a head sticking up over the top of the platform. They would build nests up there.

The neighbour opposite us had some nice Koi in a pool in his garden…that was until one morning I looked out and saw this damn great Heron perched on his roof examining the pond…it cleared the pond in a couple of days!!

Nice to see the wild life close up tho’!!
