Large Scale Central

5 & 10 cent store

Got this from Scale Art Models (an advertiser here, I used his advertising fee plus more to buy a bunch of stuff). I really like it, I think its going to be the corporate chimney!

Exactly why this website will never be a profitable business :)

Exactly! I keep thinking "Oh yea, the site pays for itself", and then run the numbers at the end of the year, taking into account what I've spent back at advertisers. :/

Yea, I got mine from there. Kinda figgered that’s where he got’em.

Thanks Bob, for putting their website up there. They have some nice stuff.

Looking great Bruce. Got alot of detail attention going on.

Closing in on the finish. The chimneys shipped on Monday, so I need to wait for them before I declare it complete. Also, I need a bit of touching up on the paint. I spent some time roaming up and down the aisles at Michael’s, looking for stuff I could use for the interior. I don’t need a LOT of detail, but I felt I should have something in those windows. I decided on using the backdrop from one of the pictures that Mik put up - I kind of like the drawing, as opposed to a photo.

And one from an angle…

Heh. Just went out to pick up the mail, and my chimneys are in! Hooray to Scale Art Models. :smiley:

Backdrop looks good.
Probably better and easier than trying to add color to the photos :wink:
Ralph

neat front!

I really like the shadowbox front. I need to do something like that in the Cigar Store that Roos built for me.

Thanks. One has to be careful as a lot of that is just not visible when outside; but, it’s fun to do. :slight_smile:

BTW, you can go to Google Maps and get the street level view and see what it looks like today. The address is 13000 Western Ave, Blue Island, IL 60406

Bruce…yep and we enjoy seeing it !!
…I even noticed the diagonal wainscot at the entrance…slam a couple wounds on the front with a kid staring in and a bicycle leaning on the ledge(watertable) …sweet!!!
:slight_smile:
Jon…That building is made specifically for such as per your request? I’ve been waiting for your thread on it!

Everything in due time. I've got a really long to-do list and list of unfinished projects.

Bruce - The Google view is cool. Surprisingly hi-res too (my area is still shot in lo-res).

Bruce;

The miniature toys really make things “kick.” Are they 1:24 dollhouse details?

Best,
David Meashey

David,
Those are beads from Michaels,(I know, they’re GIANT beads) as well as some trains in a toob. I sure searched for some 1:24 stuff, but never found any.

Bruce;

After you wrote that the toys were beads, I scrolled back up and saw the holes in their little chests. Our local A. C. Moore has the Toob toys, but I have not seen the trains as yet. Very clever. Thanks.

Best,
David Meashey

Hey! You’re not supposed to look THAT close!!! :wink:

The chimneys from Scale Art Models are quite impressive. They have a couple of different models: a Chama depot chimney (on the left) and a straight chimney with two different accessories. Here it is shown on the right with the corbelled chimney top next to it.

I also bought the chimney cap with stack. Since the chimney looked to be a bit taller than I wanted, I cut one of the straight chimneys in two and used both tops with the pieces.

Is that a ventilation duct in the lower left corner of the photo?

Yes, it is. It has a screen on one end and goes through a roof opening…
