4th build challenge voting thread

First things first. We all owe Dave Taylor a huge round of applause. Between plans, kits, and prizes, he did a great deal of the heavy lifting this year.

Now, on to the boring voting rules stuff.

  1. To be eligible to vote you simply need to have been a registered member of the board since yesterday noon. ALL members are eligible, even newbies and lurkers.

  2. You only get to vote once per category, (2 votes total.)

  3. Please, no electioneering, everybody vote their own mind. And based solely on the challenge not because they are your buddy. OK?

  4. Voting period begins the moment this message is posted, and will end at Midnight Pacific time on Monday February 11, 2013 (Sunday night)

Judging Criteria:

You’ll be judging both on the Model and the Build Log individually again this year.

The model judging criteria:

  1. Project - Originality, Creativity

  2. Process - Workmanship, Fit and Finish

  3. Product - Overall finished appearance

The Build Log judging criteria:

  1. Information Presentation - readability, followability,

  2. Information Presented - tips, techniques, history, how and why

  3. Photgraphs - “a picture is worth a thousand words”. For this contest we are NOT focusing picture quality, or even quantity, but how they further the build log, By showing progress, demonstrating techniques, or drawing attention to detail.

To cast your vote, you simply reply to this thread. So, for example if you think Ernest P. Worrell had the best model, and Forrest Gump the best build log, You only need to respond with:

“Model: Ernest, Log: Forrest”

If you choose not to vote in a category write in “undecided”. Please don’t change your vote.

And this year’s talented challengers are (in no particular order):

1st timer Travis Dague: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/18062/gondola-challenge

By my count, that’s 16 starts with 13 completions this year, a really great turnout!

Did I miss anybody? Who all was 1st Timers? Did anyone with a DNF after their name actuallt finish, and have updated photos?

Let the judging begin!

EDIT Addendum. Ralph reminded me that we have 3 prizes this year. So we’ll award one for model, one for log, and combine scores to award a “best of show”… If all 3 turn out to be the same person, We’ll go to #2 on the individual categories… fair enough?

Model: John Le Forestier The Vat/Brine Car

Build Log: Tom Grabensteine The Ballast Car

Honorable Mention (if there ain’t such a category, there oughta be) Dave Taylor Frame House

Model: Dave Taylor, Log: John Le Forestier

Model: Dave Taylor

Log: Tom Grabenstein

Hi Mik,

Thanks for all you are doing with the challenge. Yes, this was a “first time challenge” for me.

Tom Grabenstein

Model …Dave Taylor

Build Log…Tom Grabenstein

Only editing to say it was" great work all around guys" and I had to do some thinking cause the vote wasn’t easy!

This is really tough to vote for one model. It would have been easier to vote for our top 3.

This was really hard to evaluate and choose. Alot of great models this year.

Wow we have some really awesome projects here…

Model: John Le Forestier The Pickle Car

(this vote was a bitch! too many very good models.

But john made something seldom seen, made it good and weathered it good.

so in my opinion he is first (by the tip of the nose))

Build Log: Tom Grabenstein The Ballast Car

(this vote was easy)

You guys can ignore my build, I dropped out. My boxcar was not turning out as planned so i lost interest and got tied up with other projects.

Everyone did a great job this year. This makes it very hard to judge. After looking at evrything multiple times I came up with a decision.

There are a lot of very nice models this year, very hard to judge. In my opinion they are all winners

OMG This snuck up on me. I went home early from work from the head cold I have, got up this morn and found this voting thread.

I am officially taking my self out of the voting. As I have way to many “Dogs in the Fight” as Kit maker, Prize giver and general “Mik’s Build Challenge” Rah Rah Raher. I appreciate the votes guys as a sign of exceptance within the group of modelers. Thanks for the support.

If you voted for me, pleas re-vote for one of the great builds from this challenge.

Dave

I am a first time challenger.

Tough one!
