Large Scale Central

25 years of Large Scale Central

I like this site very much.
When you live somewhat isolated from others with similar hobby interests
it is a great connection, I appreciate the effort that Bob puts into maintaining it.

I go back to about 2007-2008 but didn’t participate much in the early days as there were
a few real nasties here that tried to tell everyone else how to live. thankfully over time
Bob weeded them out and now this is a pleasant place to visit.

Hmmmm. 2006 hard to believe it’s been that long
Bob works hard to give us a home !
Much appreciated Bob

As a refugee from the commercial MLS, I really appreciate your efforts, Bob.

Best, David Meashey

Back in the day in the hood!

Throwing in a huge “thank you” only Ken’s way… “Ya’ done good Robert” !

Wait…I had NO idea there were other train boards?
:rooster:

Damn, something else to remind me how old I am ! Thanks Bob for 25 great years and I hope many more to come !

I think that’s when I got onboard here too, but now I can’t remember!
Cheers,
Matt

Spent a bit of time on the Wayback machine digging into how the old forums looked. The original software was cobbled together in a couple days, and looked like this until about 2004

Next up was a slightly cleaner look and some more features.

2008ish brought this look

Then for a while we looked like this 2015 image, until the software couldnt handle the traffic and we change to the current look about three years ago.

Nice look back. I remember the last three. But didn’t get the T-shirt, I waited for the golf shirts. :sunglasses:

Thanks Bob, I missed those earlier years, so I appreciate the glimpse, and am grateful for all the work you’ve done over the last quarter century for we in the hobby.

During this year, maybe we could patch together some images of past DnB’s, their posters and various venues. I can post on some of the last ones at York, and after, but not on the original & earlier ones. If anyone’s interested?

I used the hell out of that scale converter in the site features …back in the day in the hood.

How about a Zoom/whatever web meetup that Monday evening to celebrate? V-beers all round?

I know we tried a virtual DnB in 2020 (right?), but my “help” in coordinating only backfired and pissed a few folks off. So it would be nice to counter that a some point. Doesn’t need to be the Anny night, but I might as well suggest it. Oh crap, there I go again trying to coordinate…

I wish you the best of luck with your efforts!

May the Rooster be with you.

Oooh… nice, I wish I’d thought of that.

Yep, it’s a thing.

I just noticed the “free” 5 megabyte free storage and realized my phone now takes 5 megabyte pictures, as in EACH picture is 5 megs. How things have changed. :open_mouth:

Don’t think I joined until 2016-2017 so the last 2 are all I have known, wish our club could get the 2015 version it would be a huge step up from our current website.

That software is SocialEngine https://socialengine.com/

I really like the look of it, but it’s remarkably slow when there’s lots of site traffic (at least, thats why I finally changed to the current software)

But it’s really nice looking.

Thanks Bob, our website is a go daddy, one that only one person can do anything other than look at! It’s early 2000’s vintage and I am fighting them to build something better
