The final evening of the open house tour a guy and his daughter came by around 7pm were were open from 4-8pm, and hung around looking and taking pictures, he was telling me his granddad was an engineer and his dad who lives not far would love to see my layout. But he was getting ready for bed when they left, so gave him my number and said to call as I was home all week and he was welcome to come by. They left and about 20 minutes later the daughter comes around the corner followed closely by her grandfather who is almost elbowing her out of the way to see the layout! They spent about a half hr looking and the smile on granddad and grammas faces was awesome.
He was telling my wife and I stories about ringing with his dad who started on steam engines for L&N and ran from mostly from Nashville to Memphis. This is what the fun is having an open house, seeing his eyes light up and watching a 90yr old gentleman really excited .
The son said when he went back to show the dad ( who is on oxygen) dad immediately said let’s go!!!and to quote the granddaughter “the race was on”!!!
