2024 Fall Running - Post your pictures here

Oooh, Bruce’s #4 was hauling the Sutro Pneumo Loco! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It warms my heart that you tarted it up, Jon… well, at least rusted it and made it a load. I worked a bunch on that model and print, but I’ve yet to do squat with mine!

RGS #42 and consist approaching Ophir on Jim K’s Rio Grande Scenic railroad. Great November sun!

From the recent club modular event at MCCormick Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale, spent 6 hours OPERATING trains, had a good day until something made my 53’ evans car and my new AML hopper take a dove to the ground, only thing that broke was a CamPac coupler mount. Could have been much worse

Road trial still pending, but this is my quick & dirty leaf blower car using a serious 24V equipment blower. It’s strong enough to propel the car on the indoor.

I have a bunch of these blowers with power leads for sale on Marketplace for $5 each. They came out of a flatbed solvent printer we scrapped at work years ago.

Mark I was a minor success, but lacked power when a big pile collected in front, so I present Mark II…

Road trials tomorrow maybe.

Mark II was an improvement, but the stream is too high. Needs a complete redesign for next fall. The leaves are all but done here now, so it works great for the stragglers…

Wednesday was a nice fall day and reasonably warm. Today we finally have much needed rain, so I wanted to get some trains out while it was still dry. There is a chance of light snow tomorrow morning - maybe some early winter shots!

It got pretty busy at the junction. The passenger train is holding on a siding and M-10 and M-11 hold on the West leg of the wye as a double headed mixed train clears the junction…

John Radder, the Cobra I got from you new has a new owner and she loves it!

My lifelong friend Jeff Leisle owns a auto electric business , so I had to make this into his shop. The 2 story yellow house in background is a metal candle holder the wife found at Hobby Lobby, I repainted it

When I was trucking , my largest customer was Abrasives and Equipment a sand blasting seller, he only sold to public but I like that I grew his business to a whole plant that stores and sells it, actually need to build a warehouse for it too!

Some views around the layout, I made the Cattle loading chute based off one we had growing up, and of course from the MIK a few year ago , the “Hippie” Quonset Hut

Fun to see some of my old vehicles in a new setting  Your RR is looking good.

The day before Thanksgiving “Fall” running looked like this around here:

Cheers,

It’s technically still Fall, but they call it Meteorological Winter. The lake effect snows off lake Ontario blew in last night leaving a light coating of Styrofoam like snow pellets. I was wrestling with two competing philosophies as I looked at the thermometer at 7AM and saw 21F. Shawn V’s voice in my head said “This is your chance for great snow pictures”. On the other side of my head Ken’s voice was telling me to “Stay by the fire and enjoy the snow through the windows”. I did my best to satisfy both feelings. After running a train out twice (once forward up hill and once in reverse up hill) so I didn’t need to traverse the wye, I took almost 50 shots before Ken told me to get back inside!

Here are my choices from that 50. Do we need to start the Winter Photo thread?

Thanks Jon;

Seems so real. One would think they were prototypes.

Thanks Dave. This is exactly the kind and amount of snow I was hoping for! I left Wall Station out hoping we would get this. More arriving Wednesday night into Thursday, supposed to be measurable. I leave the station out until next week when it will be 50 and I can comfortably remove it!

Just pay no attention to the passengers and the rail fan at Wall!

Those are neat blowers Jon. I’d suggest placing them low in front of the car about 1/4" above the rail head. They would make a cool snow blower too.
Are you familiar with my blower, The RailWarrior? it uses a bilge blower.

I agree. I tried mounting on just one truck, but too unstable. I will need to concoct something so they can hang off the front of a flat. A back burner project now. I have lots of those 24V fans if anyone wants, like $5 each.

Yes, getting them low and closer to the track, hanging over the front of the car would be better or leave them where they are and build funnels that will channel the air down to the track.
My RailWarrior works well with small piles of leaves but when they get stacked up it is just too much.

I’m tempted to buy a couple of those fans. Do they need 24V or will they work, but slower on lesser voltage?

I just tested one on a 12V power supply. It runs pretty good, but not as fast as on two LiIon 4S packs in series which is around 28V where the scream!

May I add my own advice? “Move to the tropics and forget about winter!” :desert_island:

Great shots. It almost makes me want to move back to North America. Almost…
