2021 build challenge - EngineNo.98's entry

Hey there I know it said to do it on a napkin but I didn’t have one readily available when inspiration struck.

This is a my Fn2 2ft 1:20.3 tankercar made out of a Bushes baked beans can.

Hand building a frame to house some sprung archbars, and functional fn2 knuckles.

This will be the mow tanker for my shortline.

I’m waiting for parts I already had coming to get here, hopefully they do on time.

That works. Looking forward to your build.

Hey 98, I am confused!! Are you modeling Fn2 (2 foot gauge on 45mm track) or 1:20.3 which is 3 foot gauge on 45mm track)? Either way, looks interesting. I am rooting for the 7/8n2 myself.

Bob

F=20.3

n=narrow gauge

2=2foot

so Fn2 is 20.3 on 32mm track

Mick

Mik you are correct. We see so little 32mm stuff here I forgot about it.

Ben,

Can’t wait to pull that tanker around with my Porter on the pizza

He better be modeling on 32mm track otherwise my Fn2 build will be lonely

Ben, looking forward to your build. Is this going to be a steel tank or a wooden one? Oh, btw, you might want to watch out for that Devon character. I’ve been told he wears a tinfoil hat quite often … just sayin’ (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

That question is a bit confusing considering the fact that were supposed to be making something out of a tin can. Soooo its a tin can tank lol

Also that perfect because I also wear one lol.

Were on the same loony train to brokeville.

It was a ruse, I’ve been going 45mm this whole time. Mwahahaha

Well, that is partially true, Ben. Rule #3 allows you to cover the “tin can” with wood, for example, to simulate a wooden tank (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Hence the reason for my question.

I hope you and Devon are not sharing the same tinfoil hat (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Ohh thats what you mean. Nah I’m just painting it, not covering it with wood.

Worked on the frame with Devon. Made out of plastic boards and wood.

The beans took a while to get out without getting the ends opened.

Typically, it is harder to get them out without anyone hearing or smelling them. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Progress is down to a halt because I can’t get any further until new parts come in.

I’ve been staying within the $30 limit but it’s very difficult to get what I need.

So I Found inspiration for building more of the tanker and I built the top filler hatch out of an old Bachmann steam dome.

I finished the decking and painted both the can and the chassis. I am still waiting on the trucks and couplers but I was able to purchase it under $30 still.

I had a super glue catastrophe happen, much fingers were glued.

Coming along nicely. Maybe ask your question about an operational valve to the group. You never know what might come up

No. 98:

Thanks for undertaking this project. We plan to make something similar (perhaps without the obligatory glue catastrophe) for the M&K Sugar Co. later this year.

As Devon said, I actually was intent on making this a operational tanker car by Adding a miniature valve at the bottom and a little hose coming out. But I don’t think I am able to get one as I’ve already used up the $30 limit.
