2014 Mik's Build Challenge: Bupp Gold Mine.

Nice Jake real nice, looking better and better all the time. Glad you’ve kept working on this.

By the way, I bought a pin nailer, but haven’t used it yet because I haven’t bought quality nails yet (also I have to be in the mood for the racket from the compressor).

I’m still looking for a small tabletop saw…is this what we’re talking about?:

John et all. You will be VERY Disappointed in the performance of that mini saw! The same saw is sold under numerous brand names, but made by the same manufacture. I’ve tried to help 2 friends make theirs (each a different color) workable. These units have what seams to me a 1/1,000,000 horsepower motor. With the blade size and the wide kerf it just would not cut 1/4 stock without very carefully slowly feeding it on a cross cut, any length of ripping was impossible. Certain aftermarket blades are available, but don’t fit the shaft size, and an adaptor must be machined to use the thin kerf aftermarket blades.

Much better…. The Micro-Mark

Wait for a sale, or a discount coupon. I got mine for about $100.

I’m not at all sure why one would get a miniature tool… I’d expect even the best of them to be rather limited in what they can manage.

Meanwhile you can get at a 10 h.p. table saw from Lowes and the like for under $120 on sale. Mne works fine for ripping small stock and for a whole lot of bigger jobs. You can get very fine ripping blades for these tools, but they cost about $70…
I use regular el cheapo blades. They create wide kerfs and a lot of sawdust, which might seem wasteful. But wood is easy to come by up here and nothing goes to waste. Sawdust makes good fuel or mulch, and most of the wood I use is recycled or scrap anyway…

I got a miniature tool because I don’t have room for a full size table saw.

I ended up with the non-digital version of the “larger” Microlux saw.

I have been VERY pleased with it over the years.

Your top level screen was often called a Grizzly, kids were stationed there with sledge hammers to break up what wouldn’t go through. Cheap unskilled labor.

Ball mills were often the secondary crusher…

Keep at it, talk has been next year’s Challenge might be Unfinished projects… I’ve started the station to go with the freight depot…

John

Thanks John. I forgot about that. The grizzly would go before the Primary crusher which I havent decided what it would be. I guess I’d better build all this stuff since I’m talking about it, right?? I was thinking a ball mill would be the secondary crusher. They dont work to well trying to crush run-of-mine material.

I do the same thing John. And I just collect the dust and throw it in my burner and that helps heat the workshop.

I have a Proxxon saw, same as the non digital Micro Lux saw.

I love the thing. I have made so much scale lumber on it, out of ceder, pine, maple, and some funny smelling dark brown stuff. I can get down to 1/32nd inch square if I am careful. Of course I have a zero clearance insert I made for it, so I can do that. I also do not have room for a full sized table saw, and I would be afraid of trying to rip 1/16th by 1/8th lumber on a full sized saw.

I would like to see that.

Man am I glad I didn’t buy one Dave. I like and want one like Bruce’s and David’s, but in checking around I see them at $285and up, which means it’s on my wish list for now. Dang.
