Large Scale Central

2014 build challenge: Mik's Salvage Co.

1 Day to go! Cutting it a little close, but I just might pull it off! Got some more weathering done on the brick, and tonight started working on the scenery around the structure, just need to go around the other two sides

Then onto final structure details, and with any luck, it will be finished tomorrow night

Looks great now, only you, will think it’s not done…

Home stretch!!! Working on final details. Got a few tools on the bench, more have since been added

Last year I started building a small Case Traction Engine, never finished it however. Since it bears resemblance to a half scale Case Mik owned, I decided to add it to the scene in his memory.

In future I will place a worker here making repairs to bring it back to life, but ran out of time

putting finishing touches on the yard crane, then declaring it done, with 3 hours to spare lol Will get final pictures of the finished scene up in the morning! Thanks for following along!

Well, the boys didn’t get the yard crane done in time for opening, but got a start. The foundation started as a beef jerky container, it was then painted to resemble concrete

the rest was built on the lid, which made the crane moveable. I used a truck motor, part of a Bachmann steam donkey and a wood spool added to it. PVC for the main support, and cedar for the boom.

Final details of Mik’s Salvage
the adds on the fence are old tractor ads

And the final detail from the yard, found the right figure to work on the engine

And with that I am declaring Mik’s Salvage Co. Finished!!! Thank you everyone for following along, and Thank you for another great challenge!!!

Awesome looking Aaron!!

Very nicely done. A great tribute to Mik.

Doc Tom

The sun is actually shining today, so took it out for some pics

Thanks Boomer! Funny you should say that, cause I was thinking that as well. I wish I had a place like it myself, that way I would have room to build that traction engine

great model Aaron. Love the tribute of the 1/2 scale tractor.

Fantastic model, and it even looks better in person !

Aaron, what a wonderful job… Dinorama looks fantastic…
