It may look like Spring but it still feels like winter with a strong chilly breeze. Despite these obstacles the CVSRy crew fired Shay #5 one more time and took the test train out on the line for the staff photographer. There is still much work to be done on both #5 and the railroad before the tourist season begins but everyone is thrilled to have a large locomotive in steam this year.
We operate #5 logging style with the train up-grade from the locomotive. This will create a longer run for the passengers because we traverse the wye twice in order to keep the loco down-grade through Coal Dump Curve. It also opens the option for a shorter run to Deep Cut Tunnel & return without traversing the wye.
