Oops I have just found the first fly in the ointment …Dave’s kit is 1:20.3…my layout is 1:22.5. I can keep the lenth but I need to narrow up the frame so it doesn’t collide with a bunch of trackside stuff.
Vic, just because you live where they have the rose parade don’t mean you get a rose garden… I think you have a razor saw.
My Gondola kit arrived in the mail Thursday…Woo Hooo… Thank You Dave, Looked it over downloaded the article on the build and cant wait to get started…
So now when i Get home from work today I can really go at it…sounds exciting for my first try at this…
I got my kit yesterday and started the assembly at 1500 EST. This morning, I continued and now have the basic car on the rails… [center]

And now comes the fun!

I Told ya it was easy… And Quick… Now what ya gonna do?
Frame assembled, Bolsters added, and ready to plank it…think I going the civil war route war time car…still thinking…Home from sucky day at work so time to relax and build…
Dave,
It WAS easy because you provided an excellent kit! I need it as a gondola, so that is how I intend to finish it.
Ok I won’t post anymore pics until i figure out how to edit the size of them in photobucket…sorry guys
Dave, Your gondola kit is awesome! Easy to build and nice set of plans included…Thank You!!
I changed my mind. I’m giving the build a try.
The more the better Terry. I see a lot of good ideas coming out of this build.
I must gave missed something somewhere… I don’t know how all you guys got kits - I got a PDF plan for a shorty gon from Dave Taylor though. I guess the plan and these kits of yours are all for the same project ?
I do have a neat idea for this challenge all right, but not sure I have time to rip up a bunch of wood and catch up with everybody now before the challenge is up; my tablesaw is folded up under a pile of other stuff in the shed for the winter.
I may just stick to the challenges I had already set for myself for this winter, and the wood I had all ready ripped for them before I heard about this gondola.
So good luck to you all; I’ll follow along with interest, you can bet on that.
And if what I do isn’t exactly relevant to this particular challenge, well, too bad! Har, har! When I’m done I’ll just let you all know about it anyway! Har, har! Cheers!
John Le Forestier said:About a quarter of the posts, maybe? Those living outside the continental US got pdf plans - and an additional $5 material allowance - to help keep Dave from having to shell out for international postage, since he's doing the kits on his own dime.

If you really wanted a kit, you could have offered to pay postage. If you really want to build something else and still enter it, then you need to ask the group for a special allowance. It’s that simple. NOBODY is saying you CAN’T do a competition project here, but you. So please excuse me if I don’t have much patience/pity for it.

That’s OK Mik, I’m used to paying my own way, and I’m not asking for tears. But I never even saw this thread until I caught this page 4 this morning. I haven’t always found it easy to know everything that goes on at LSC. Now I’ve caught up on this… too late though, I think. I think it’s an excellent challenge. Maybe next year.
Good luck to everybody!
I don’t think it’s too late. I’ve only got one corner glued and will be gone for a week later in the month!
I don’t think it is too late John. I am also north of the 49th and only have the plans. Haven’t even started to cut wood yet, maybe tomorrow, its a pretty simple build, the flat car part will go quickly. The rest depends on what you want to do with it.
I’m thinking maybe a ?. Sorry, can’t give it away yet.
