2013 Annual Build Challenge?

How many of you fellows are interested in doing one again this New Year? Does anybody got suggestions for different categories? Is anybody willing to put up prizes? (I think I have a book).
We suspended the under $30 limit, and drafted a couple folks who didn’t know they were doing a challenge build last year just because there were so few entries. Originally, the whole idea was to give folks a chance to try something different, get new folks involved, and see what folks could toss together on a budget and a deadline. OTOH I can’t see the point of continuing it if there is actually little interest.

I’ll leave it up to y’all to decide.

Addition… I really am out of ideas. The best I can think of for categories this time is rolling stock or non-commercial structure/scene and try to enforce the $30 and 30 day limits.

Gang… As last years winner… I’ll throw out the first challenge. I have 22 “kits” of my “Shorty Gondola” car ( see it built under the “Modeling” forum) that I will mail for free to the people that want to tackle it as build, or a starting point for some other car. This is just the wood parts, No Trucks, or detail pieces, i’ll even throw in enough nails for the sideboards.

Plus a basic flat car It would give everyone a equal starting point.

I think Dave is on to something. That would make a great starting point and it would give people a lot of options.

My crew of merry men will bite at this chance. It would be the first large scale contest they ever tried their hand at.

Dave,

If it comes about, count me in!

If it comes to pass, I think I could conjure up something interesting.

I’m in. I need ore cars and a caboose for the mine run.

Count me in! I’m already thinking about a shorty gon to haul Christmas presents around my tree next year!

As one of the winners from last year… Thanks for the great enlarged photo Dave… I will be keeping my eye on this years contest and I’m interested in trying my hand again.
Todd

BTW, You don’t need a pin nailer to put this thing together, glue and clamp, even rubber bands would work.

I would love to but my time constraints would never let me get anything done in 30 days. I applaud you Mik for starting it up and keeping it going.
Remember folks, even small efforts (not calling this small Mik) posts and pics keep the forum interesting and going along.

Terry

I’m warming up my brain…and fingers for this project!

I’m in if this comes about.

If it happens count me in!

Are you still allowing structures in the contest?
Dennis

Dennis, The Gon build is only a proposal at this point, I ran it up the flag pole to judge a response. This is Mik’s baby.

The ‘Shorty’ Gon is a great idea Dave. I would join in but the cost of postage would be too much north of 49. So I will wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Randy, If it flies… How about a set if plans, and you cut your own wood, and maybe a couple of more for your fellow north landers? And or what would the Postage Be? it weighs out @ 154 grams, any guess?

Aset of plans via e-mail would work Dave. I have lot’s of wood here. I’m a Cabinetmaker by trade. LOL. Yes we should stir up some interest with some other Canucks as well.
