2013 Annual Build Challenge?

If I can start from a set of plans, I’d certainly be interested. I’m also north of the 49, and have the ability to cut my own wood. My winning crane from the challenge two years ago was all built from materials I cut myself.
Ron

OK guys… Let’s do this. The categories will be something built from Dave’s kit/plans -or- a non-commercial structure. Dave can you e-mail plans as a pdf to those outside the US? We’ll have to allow time for the post office for those getting the physical kit… so how does Jan 7 to Feb 6 for the build period sound? (That will also give youse guys a week to concentrate on nothing but your honeys before V-day)

Unless anybody has better suggestions I’ll post the challenge New Year’s Eve.

Prizes? As I said, I think I have a book. Other than that, bragging rights, or???

Will do… I will need an mailing address for those that want a “KIT”. Send it to my e-mail address: [email protected] and put GONDOLA in the subject line. The first 22 gets the kits. I will pony up a “Grand Prize” of a 20"x24" Canvas print from your image, and a 11 x 14 canvas for the best use of the “Kit” This was Todds print for winning last year. (Yah the old guy is me, Todd only hopes he looks as good when he’s this old)

( Todd H. will vouch for if these are worth winning or not).

Looks like the good ole boys will have to stop Whittlin’ and Spittin’ and get to work on this interesting project.

Thank you so much for this very generous offer. An email with all the particulars was sent to you this AM. I am looking forward to this build and know this will be a favorite thread for a number of weeks. Happy New Year. Tom

Dave,

My email was sent to you this morning too.

I cannot be part of this years build, reason, do not have my new house or workshop finished yet.

But would like to get a set of plans if possible?

Hey Dave We are 2 good looking guys aren’t we? and I will attest that the blown up photo is well worth winning. Mine is still hanging in our living room. I love the train and my wife likes being reminded of our trek to a snowy New hampshire to ride on the “steam in the snow” excursion.

I would like to enter the challenge again. What are the rules? We all start with a gondola kit or plans from Dave and stick to the $30-30 day plan. does the build need to be a gondola in the end? does it need to be a prototype or something a RR would have really used or can it be something weird and whimsical? I’m already thinking about ideas.

Give me a few hours to figure out the rules… we’re snowed in this morning anyway.

rules posted… Do we need to make allowances for those who don’t have a spare set of trucks? Or send a group order to the NOS Delton guy?

Im in. E-mail sent Dave

Me to. Email sent

email sent…

The maintenance crew started warming up their tools today!

Hey MIK ,
I would like to join in on this contest this year?. What do I need to do?. Travis

Travis, basically you build sumptin that conforms to the rules, and enter it… here’s the rules post for this year’s challenge…

So very nice of Dave to provide the kits and prizes too :) Since I'm no good with short deadlines, I won't be entering ;)

However, I would like to offer a third prize for those of you that do enter.
I have a signed Andrew Fletcher poster of the NS Heritage units as well as a rather large poster of the Heritage units at the NCTM roundhouse by NS photographer Casey Thomason.
Ralph

The generosity of this group is amazing. Thank you.

Tom

Don’t know when you mailed mine, but I got it yesterday via USPS. Got to get started on sorting the pieces and seeing how it goes together.
