2013 American Invasion of Ottawa Timetable

Saturday was narrow gauge operations day.

I brought out my “traveling” 1:20 locomotive. It’s a Bachmann Shay that I have modified to allow three different sets of couplers. Today, I put on the tiny Kadee couplers.

We were leaving out of Ralph, formerly known as Fir Grove and waited for the yardmaster to put together the train.

Our train is against the fence, headed downhill. The temperature was a lot cooler today, so Jean braved the sun.

Sure it’s cooler, but the grove over by Mt.St.Helens is even nicer and is always a magnet for relaxing.

Jean shelters under the umbrellas as our train works its way through the sun.

Meanwhile, Gary enjoys the meet at Peter’s Pond.

Sunday we headed over for operations on Doug’s Northland Railroad.

He has installed my Hotel Rosseau flat and it looks nice.

Doug also focuses on the garden and it is quite lush.

But, the focus IS operations. Here his temporary car float defines one end of the layout.

There was a bit of initial set up before we operated. I used my RS-3 to move some of the cars.

My first job was to take the E-8 around as part of a railfan excursion.

After that, I used my RS-3 to take the quarry run.

First, I met Ken’s train…

Ken’s train was rather long…while I was running light.

I picked up my empties over by the station.

It’s a STEEP grade down to the quarry.

We didn’t have time to complete our tasks before lunch was served. We were able to enjoy the flowers surrounding the gazebo.

Sunday afternoon we drove down to the Finger Lake Live Steamers and enjoyed a warm greeting.

Anthony was working on his live steam engine. He had converted it from coal to kerosene and enjoys a cleaner ride.

John had his whole train available for us to ride and drive.

Monday we drove over for the operations part. On the way, we drove by a field of sunflowers.

Ken and Jan seemed to enjoy it.

Today’s focus was on passenger operations, and Roger had to do some set up first.

Meanwhile, Ed was busy starting up his coal fired ten wheeler.

Yep, look closely. Rooster does get around!

Once he had enough steam, he took Ken and Jean for a ride.

We had two operating session in the yard and it was quite a challenge. Here the milk train comes through to disturb our chaos.

It was a great day and we really enjoyed it. Thanks to the Finger Lakes Live Steamers for setting it up!

I sure wish I could have been there at The Finger Lakes, but I woke up on Sunday morning, feeling completely drained, and my knees were telling me to give them a break.

I also regret missing the good time at Doug’s…

Thank you Bruce for posting the pictures.

Fred

Excellent Bruce. I haven’t gotten mine sorted out yet…

I have created an album of our time at Doug’s.

I’ll just point to it here so I can get going to my live steam event after my lunch appointment:

It’s been on my list for several years.
I hate missing out on such a good time
Ralph

I heard the dead rooster is thrown on the tracks like a flare to warn following trains of trouble ahead. Seemed like a good idea. Yes, every once in awhile the rooster gets run over, but that is no loss.

I have now created an album of my Day 2 pics.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Lp1YGPreOrs/UfrEcYZ8EyI/AAAAAAAAA18/u_ihbhMO7w0/w835-h557-no/DSC07519.JPG

is a sample. Since Google puts in funny strings with - signs I can’t seem to embed the pic, either straight link, or with [ img] .-. [/ img] tags.

2nd try using a Google+ trick to get back to something more like the old Picasa albums.

Above did nothing, so trying img tags

and URL tags

Using the Picasa(not Google+) method to get embed code:
