2013 American Invasion of Ottawa Timetable

My wife didn’t want me driving alone, so she’ll skip her gardening for a few days and come with me.

The Narrow Gauge Conventions always provide a list of things that might interest the wives of the railroaders(since most of them are men), or other non-railroaders.

Here’s a link to this years in Pasadena, CA:

Where do I look for a similar list for my wife?

Botanical gardens?

Crossed in to Canada at the Soo Locks and working our way across toward the IPP&WRR.

We’re awaiting your safe arrival, Ric…

I have it on good authority that Ig has arrived early and is taking advantage of the quiet of Fred’s back yard before the Invaders arrive to catch a few rays…

You can ask Doug Matheson about gardening.

There is the Dominion Arboretum of the Central Experimental Farm, but is small compared to the Botanical gardens in Montreal.

Some of our the lady guests slip away to a spa. She can ask a few of our American vistors when she arrives.

I will be leaving shortly for the trek northward…

Godspeed all ye Invaders. I shall be with you in spirit! And for those swinging through NJ on Tuesday I’ll see you at Shawn’s place.

Thanks Paul.

I’ve let her know about your suggestions.

We were talking to Doug tonight about Sunday and Monday activities and we will have to talk just gardening next.

The American Invasion of Friends has started off very well. Friday morning may be a bit of a challenge, weather wise, until after 09:30. By then it should clear up, and we will have finished breakfast.

So far everyone expected, have arrived. Gary should get here some time in the morning.

Pictures…yes there should be some, posted, just for David Russell…soon…!!

As most know; I don’t do “Pictures” but there are a bunch that do, and I’m sure that they will post them soon…I’ll prod them at breakfast.!!

Thanks Fred glad everyone arrived safe.

Rooster is being punished. He had to go to his corner. Looking forward to the pictures. Tell Ric I have a perfect spot for his camper for when he comes.

Sadly, neither ig nor ken the GFT nor I will make it this year, due to a series of unforseen circumstances.

Life is what happens while you’re making plans.

My very best to you all there, and over here in the mud hut by the stream we are thinking of you all with great affection.

Have fun! Live life! Run trains!

Life is good!

tac, ig, ken the GFT & The Missing you Bad boys

What about posting some pics? Come on guys… the rest of the world is waiting.

Last year, when we went up for the invasion, there was so much going on, there wasn’t time to post pictures, until after the event… Patience… Pictures will show up…

And with all the after event events lots of folks won’t be home until Wednesday or later. I can post some historical photos if you like

Here’s to the gang at Shawn’s after after - have fun, everyone!

Andy’s right. There were lots of pictures taken, but the American Invasion of Ottawa still has another day to go.

Ric was lamenting last night that it was Saturday already and the standard and narrow gauge railway operations on Fred’s IPP&W Railway were already over.

Today he and others were running big diesels hauling modern cars on Doug Matheson’s Northland Railway.

By now most of our guests are at the Finger Lake Live Steamers facility west of Syracuse. Doug and I will join them tomorrow.

Tuesday most will be travelling back home. Ric and Jan may not be home until later in the week. They are enjoying our cool nights. Last night it was 52F. First time I could shut off the air conditioning and open the windows in a week. Slept like a baby.

I would not expect to see any pictures until Wednesday or later.

I was too busy running trains Saturday so took no pictures, here a few I took Friday, hopefully that will work until some of the others start posting.

Thank you Gary

And, I’ll add a few tonight. More later.

We arrived on Thursday - a bit after the operation had started, so it was mostly sit, relax, and chat. And have a beer or two.

Friday started off looking nice though quite warm for Canada.

Here’s the crew setting up the cars, with Nelson Yard in the foreground.

It was standard gauge operation; Jean was the engineer using my RS-3.

It soon got too hot for her to continue, so she joined the crowd trying to stay cool under the cedar trees.

I got a chance to switch the new siding at Peter’s Pond.

A look from the other side of Nelson Yard

The cooler’s were mostly located in the cedars, next to Mount St. Helens.

Gary ended up joining my “team” and we finished the train.

The first rain postponed the operations. The next one stayed and we cancelled. It was quite a heavy rain.

The hydrangea did not care for the rain at all, and decided to take a rest on the table.

Fred had to put it out of its misery.

More pictures later. Great sessions this year!

We operated narrow gauge on the IPP&W on Saturday.

Sunday - Northland Railroad - modern, over at Doug’s.

Monday - Passenger operations down on the Finger Lakes Live Steamers in Marengo, NY.

Thanks Guys… Man I wish that I could join ya… Really like the “Huge Yard” wow!

Well maybe next year! ( no I’m not a Cubs fan)
