Large Scale Central

2011 Challenge - Ralph

Finally got started yesterday. I’m going to build a stock loading pen with a small office. I don’t think I’ll have to spend any money, as I pretty well already have everything I need. The idea for the office came about when I cut up a B’mann combine for another project.

It has received it’s first coat of paint. The 30 degree temps weren’t the best conditions for spraying paint. The roof needs cut & painted. The paint is not nearly as red as it looks in the flash.

The tough part will be determining the size and shape for the base. The siding is not in yet. I’ll have to lay it out temporarily in order to determine the location and height of the loading ramps. Ralph

Up date pics would be good.

I will update…when I have something further to show
Other things have kept me tied up :frowning:

TMI!!! But whatever floats yer boat, just as long as you don't suffocate yerself like that Carradine fella!

Progress is slow. I boarded up the celestory windows as well as the freight door windows using the “craft sticks” from Wally World. I’ve had a box of 1000 for who knows how long. Sign was fashioned from an old piece of acrylic. Decals are left over from the Marconi Goats stock car. For the cut end wall I used the compartment divider. The base is a piece of acrylic that I was going to use for a building I had planned. I gave up on that idea when one $8.99 can of Valspar textured paint was emptied to paint one wall.

I’m going to redo the Goat decals on the side. They did not like the matte acrylic finish coat. Work is already begun on the decking. Decking and loading ramps are also being built from the craft sticks. Fencing I’m not sure about yet. Ralph

Just say ’ Cheese '. Looks good Ralph

LOL!

Thats good

We seem to have a recurring theme for this Challenge. Mine will also not be finished on time. I probably could have skipped running trains and railfanning, and maybe finished on time. But what fun is that  If I have to work on it, it becomes a chore. As it is, I’m enjoying working on this and other projects too. The deck is built using the craft sticks. They are not very uniform in size and about 25% of them are not usable for building. Originally I was going to stagger the joints on the decking. But with these “sticks”, it would have involved a lot of sorting and matching. I’ll paint the deck tonight and clear coat it tomorrow. The fencing and loading ramps will not be finished in time.

Our contract was for building and pens with ramps, finished by 2/14/2011. How am I supposed to run a business when the contractors I hire can’t live up to their side of the agreement ? I guess next I’ll be hearing due to labor incresses, Material cost risings, etc you want an additional 40%.

Hollywood,
We’re just waiting on you to send the building materials

Thats what happens when you pick the lowest bider. LOL

The deck is painted. Only did one coat for that worn look. Sealed it with Matte Acrylic. Bought some fence for $15, but used maybe 10% of it here. I may paint the fence. Loading chute still needs to be built, but it won’t get done by tomorrow. Figures I horse swapped Korm for quite some time ago. Marconi’s goats are imported from Paraguay  Ralph

I hope you had all the proper permits in place to import livestock into the country. Don’t need the Dept. of Agriculture knocking on your door and quarantining the goats.

…grinning…

Thems ain’t faintin’ goats, are they?

I don’t know about “faintin”…but they sure do stink  This is the fence I modified for use. I cut off the base and one post off each.

I didn’t have time to build the loading chutes, but did put in the siding today. I understand goats require food and water, so I need to build a trough.

I like it. Looks good Ralph , but I hope you feed the goats soon.

The goats look rather happy with their new digs. Too bad they don’t have clue where they are headed next.
Great build Ralph.
