Large Scale Central

2011 Challenge - Harlem Transfer

Neat project! Thank’s to your project Bob, I have gotten some new idea’s for my next build. Even before this one is done.

Test fit of one side and the tall end. Looks about right.

What’s that old axiom, if it looks right it is right?

Off to Lowe’s today to check out appropriate paint for the building. I’m thinking Rustoleum “Mesa tan” as the base coat, then overspray with some grey to weather it down, and then add streaking, etc, from various places.

looking good, Bob…

Assembled the 5 big pieces this morning.

looking sharp, Bob…

Thanks. Lots of 1/8 work now, the various raised bits, the roof pieces, awnings over the doors, and, of course the loading dock.

Nice to have a good size building on your layout. Looking good. What did you decide on the paint? I’ve been VERY pleased with the latex paint samples you can buy. Yes, you have to brush it on, but you can get the exact color you want at a decent price.

I did a test bit with the sandstone textured ‘mesa tan’ with an over-spray of gray. Looks reasonable. Should be even better with a wash of grime over it.

Looks like it’s gonna work. Will have to note texture paint idea for future use.

I started making a building a while back.
When it took one $8.99 can of textured paint to cover one wall, I decided not to build the other three walls.
I liked the look, but didn’t want to spend $40 on paint.
But I will be recycling that wall and using it on my Challenge.

Jane used rattlecan textured spray paint for some roofs on houses… The first one, she didn’t think she needed to seal… When the texture got wet, it all ran down off the roof, all over the side of the house… Just a word of caution…

Hm, have to keep an eye for that. Maybe I’ll spray a piece and toss it outside for the rest of the winter…

What brand Bob? I’m using Rust-oleum textured paint on the “shoe”

Nice sizing Bob

Rustoleum ‘sandstone’ textured paint, “Mesa Tan” color…

I use " Premium Deco " satin enamel Almond color for my concrete looking items. The viaduct and walls were painted with that along with a tunnel portal and it has held up very well! No texture to it though.

BTW…very nice progress Bob!
