2011 build challenge!

I wont argue. Although I just have a few details to do. Saterday works.
Bob weather might be real nice end of week for painting.

This is my shot at it.

Now the reason for the questions:

What is your confidence level? 1-10 1 being very low

What is your current skill level?
Neophyte–Beginner–Apprentice–Intermediate–Journeyman–Expert–Master–Grand Master
(Neophyte means you think you might be able to tell which end of the knife to hold - unless it’s a fancy knife, Grand Master means you could build models for the Smithsonian or movies)

Has participating in the challenge improved (or worsened) either of these for you?

First we’re gonna figure some ‘bonus points’ for everybody
If you completely finished on time = 1 point
If you came in under budget = 1 point
If the challenge increased your confidence = 1 point
If this was your very first scratchbuild project= 1 point
If you tried a new skill/technique on your project = 1 point
If you gave Rooster a swirlie, or held him down and shaved off one of his eyebrows during the challenge period = 3 points Have proof of it on video = 10 points

Then to level the field a bit more in case of a ties in the voting
Neophyte-Beginner = +3 points
Apprentice-Journeyman = +2 points
Expert - Master = + 1 point
Grand Master - 0 points

Today is gonna be close! Painted most of it yesterday, need to finish the main body today, and then attach the doors, windows and roof.

My answers:

Confidence: 10

Level: Journeyman/Expert (depends on project) Each project I get better.

Bonus points:

On time? We’ll see.
Under budget: No, had to buy more glue, paint AND some styrene.
Increased confidence: Every project does
New technique: Used PVC board for the first time.

I guess I would fall into the “Journeyman” category based on the number of projects I’ve done.

Increased confidence…Nah. I know I can do better, but take many short cuts to expedite the job. Too many irons in the fire to be meticulous.
I’ve not measured a single cut on “Marconi Goats”, or so much as broken out a file.
And even then, the project won’t be finished.

But I am under budget!

Fencing may be done by Saturday. I bought some fencing from Rick Marty for $15, not knowing if any of it would be suitable. Turns out some of the fencing will work.
But I’ll have to do some cutting and painting. Looks like it might amount to about 10% of what was purchased. So that would be $1.50 for fencing!

BTW- Thanks Rick. Very happy with the fencing. I’m sure it will be showing up all over the GRR in the next few years
Ralph

Do I get any points for having my ore chute in the “thought stage?” I do have the recycled redwood cut.

I also recycled an extension off an old office desk from where I worked and have a nice workplace indoors in front of the south facing window. I’ll regret that decision when it’s 110 this summer! It’s 28 inches high and I might even be able to see what’ I’m doing!

I hope everyone gets their projects done. I’m looking forward to the next challenge.

If you completely finished on time = Oops. Post Pic Monday
If you came in under budget = Spent $0Will have to see what I did compares to the Journeymen
If this was your very first scratchbuild project= yes
If you tried a new skill/technique on your project = Coreplast Base - won’t use it again - hates any type of adhesive

You guys that won’t finish, are over budget, etc., DO still have a little over a day to catch a Rooster and claim those bonus points… hehehehehe  NO, you CAN’T shave your own eyebrow to win, buddy boy!

Mike, if it’s your first scratchbuild, you might want to claim the beginner points. Last time we had a pretty close race.

If you completely finished on time = yeah, sure. It might look almost presentable by tomorrow, tho
If you came in under budget = who are we kidding? About $19 altogether
If the challenge increased your confidence = um, not really.
If this was your very first scratchbuild project= Can’t I fib just a little?
If you tried a new skill/technique on your project = 1 point Well, that’s something anyway

Apprentice-Journeyman = +2 points
Are we talking fit and finish? Or the number of projects completed? One of these days I’ll get hit the lotto and be able to hire some poor drone to sand stuff for me. Until then I’ma gonna say ‘Apprentice’
