2011 build challenge!

I’m in!
John

Mik, are you sure, that St Valentines day isn’t a bit near for a deadline?

Korm, if it was next Christmas, you’d just procrastinate until Dec 1, then get busy on other stuff and forget… A month is plenty of time. That’s why it’s a “challenge”

I found 2 ‘prizes’ a used Narrow Gauge Then and Now photo book, and a used Driving a Steam Locomotive book…

Thanks for the guidance…

Mik
Do band aids count against the 10 dollars we have to spend or are they a give me?

I’m up to three cut fingers on my Challenge.

edit for spelling

I just use masking tape, no use spending good money on over-priced band-aids.

Depends… Was it a simple accident or being stupid/careless? I think at this point I’d consider buying a new blade, we’ll give you that as a freebie. Along with the unique red/brown stain you already applied.

If/when you need stitches post pictures. We love pictures :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of costs, how are they figured when materials are leftovers from purchases up to 2 years ago for other projects?

If it was in your possession prior to Jan 7, it's 'free'..... If you trade for it, it's 'free' (unless you and another guy are buying stuff for each other).... If you bid on it before Jan 7 but didn't pay for it until after, you'll have to count the item price, but not the shipping.... If it was paid for before Jan 7 but didn't arrive until after -- hellifiknow -- we may have to hold a poll on that one..... AND If you really have an odd desire to cheat, you'll just have to buy everybody beer and pizza to look the other way.... :D

do i send the pizza by mail, or do you all come to get it?

Every bit of it, including the cat hair stuck in the glue.

Korm, YOU gotta bring it to the ECLSTS at York in March, or fr Fred’s for the invasion, hehehehe

Ok, we did it a couple times last winter, and I think we had fun. Now it's time for another one!

Subject(s): structure, non-rail vehicle, or mini scene.

Size: 1 sq in to 288sq inches (2sq feet) actual

Budget: Maximum of $10 in new expenditures - beg, borrow, trade, but please don’t steal whatever else you may need. This includes paint and glue. But we’ll spot everybody 1 new tube of glue and 1 new bottle of paint off the expense sheet. Fair enough?

Qualifications: Must be a new project, entirely researched, planned and constructed during the challenge period. Challenge period will run Friday January 7 to Monday February 14 2011, beginning and ending at 10PM Pacific time. Giving you 37 days and/or 6 weekends. Entries with build log and materials/expense list should be posted on this forum no later than Friday Feb 18, 2011

Voting/Judging: The voting will be done by all general forum members, and will begin Sat the 19th and run through the following Friday the 25th. Judging will be based on the following: 1. Overall appearance/execution 2. Originality 3. Clarity of photo/description log. A maximum of 10 bonus points will be awarded to beginning builders to help level the field. There may or may not be a 4th category of ‘builder’s favorite’ determined by popular vote of the participants themselves.

Clock is ticking?? The rules are again…

Now that it’s coming down to the wire, and all (most?) of the builds are coming along nicely. I’ll ask each 0f the builders to consider these three questions:

What is your confidence level?
1-10 1 being very low

What is your current skill level?
Neophyte–Beginner–Apprentice–Intermediate–Journeyman–Expert–Master–Grand Master
(Neophyte means you think you might be able to tell which end of the knife to hold - unless it’s a fancy knife, Grand Master means you could build models for the Smithsonian or movies)

Has participating in the challenge improved (or worsened) either of these for you?

Just think about it for now, and save your answers for the 14th.

this one i can already answer:

Has participating in the challenge improved (or worsened) either of these for you?

what the challenge does improve is my building speed.

Only one day left-- and you have to devote at least part of that to your honey!

Will you be done in time? Will I?

Would extending the deadline until Saturday, and increasing the budget by $5 (As a Valentine’s day gift from all of us to your honey) help you to finish? (And I’m still over budget at that!) Or would those that have worked their tails off under the current guidelines get upset?

As for what those questions about skill and confidence meant, I’ll tell you soon!

Nope, mine definitely won’t be done in time. No warm weather to paint it in.

I won’t be done. But I won’t be done by Saturday either. Though, hopefully, I’ll be a little further along.
What ever you want to do is fine with me.
Ralph

I might be done but dont look good. Up to what ever you deside.

I’m gonna extend the deadline to Saturday. Take the girl out, and not for McGrease, ya cheap SoBs :stuck_out_tongue:
