$150,000 for clothes

That’s what the Republican National Committee has spent on Sarah Palin’s clothes, hair, and makeup

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html

Some excerpts:

"The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September."

$49, 000 in one trip–That’s more than a lot of people make in a year!
$75, 000 at neiman-marcus!

Just a regular gal from main street Wasila

And the RNC was thinking of Todd as well:

“An additional $4,902.45 was spent in early September at Atelier, a high-class shopping destination for men.”

This is money spent by the Republican National Committee–it’s the money people send to the RNC in donations.

Also, because I know it’s coming:
“A review of similar records for the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee turned up no similar spending.”

Mike.
Do you think it made any difference to her prospects?

Hey, you expected an ex-mayor of a small rural town and her family to have a wardrobe worthy of appearances on national TV ? Can’t have a VP candidate looking like she and her family live in a trailer park, can we?

Money well spent as far as I’m concerned. Less they have for robo calls and other BS.

EDIT: I have no prejudice against people who live in trailer parks. My brother does, and he’s a real nice guy and a classy dresser too.

Yes, that’s the best thing about this–it’s 150, 000 that could have been spent on attack ads or on shoring up some shaky Senator’s campaign

I think she looks very nice. Money well spent. I bet they can trace where the money came from and who donated it, also.

She does look great. She ought to for 150 large.

It’s just how do I square the small town, main street regular gal just-like-you rhetoric with spending that much on clothes and makeup? I remember the outrage on Fox about John Edwards’ 400 dollar haircut, and how it showed he was a fake and a hypocrite–and here Palin has spent ten times as much on hair, and more on clothes than the vast majority of Americans will ever make in a year. And she did it by going to the big city, not the “pro-American” small towns.

By the way, before Steve posts it–the story about Michelle Obama ordering lobster and cavier is a fake–

I just think it has to be put in perspective. I would imagine the $150,000.00 doesn’t cover the amount of fuel used in the security details for all 4 of the candidates and their families for a day. I was going to say a week, but then rethought the idea. That will never be disclosed because none of the muckity mucks want us to know how they really live and what it costs all of us.

Gee saw this and thought Mike got a raise!

At least now Sarah will be elegant enough to be on the same stage with Demo Edwards’ haircut should the occasion arise.

I wonder if this scarf was part of the $150,000

That’s funny!

Maybe the buyer was a democrat?

I’ve heard that the wardrobe will be donated to charity after the campaign (whether just the clothes or auctioned off and the money donated), win or lose. View it how you will.

How many hangers on relatives and cronies are on Obama’s campaign payroll? Have you compared THOSE numbers? After all THAT’s the voter’s money too.

I have no idea–how would you define “hanger’s on and cronies?” Well it’s all publicly available in the Obama campaign’s spending report. Both campaigns must file a “Schedule F form.” I assume if there was some scandal there we’d have heard about it by now. I’m sure Fox news has checked it out. Politico, which broke the wardrobe story, looked at Obama’s spending reports and found nothing odd. Here’s an excerpt from the RNC schedule F report

75, 000 in clothes in one day, bought for Palin by a named Jeff Larson, who is also in charge of the McCain robocall effort. 150, 000 dollars on clothes in three months. $50,000 a month. Talk about socialism!

So, if they spent $150 G’s on that scarf and the accessories to go with it. I wonder how much for these pens ?

A good value at any price

I’m sure $150K is a drop in the bucket compared to what uber rich Cindy McCain spends on clothes, shiny baubles and plastic surgery. I’m sure Joe 6-pack and Joe the Plumber can really relate to that kind of extravagance. I say, “Keep up the good work!” It’s really paying off for them.

Dude,

It’s her money, she can do what the hell she wants with it.

Who said she couldn’t?

Spending that much money on Sarah Palin’s clothes just proves how poor she is. After all if she was rich she’d already have plenty of clothes.

And…there are lots of us folks even poorer than her. Take me for example. If I was running for Pres./Vice Pres. I’d need all new blue jeans and flannel shirts. Take a million easy to get me up to speed fashionwise.

I wonder how much Hillary spent? Or even BHO?

Really, is this the best you got?

No, it just shows how out of touch with reality the GOP is. The economy is in the crapper because of their spend and borrow routine and they blow $150,000 on clothes and makeup.
They have always called themselves conservatives while their actions have been anything but conservative.
