1/32nd(sorta) stock car plans

I wanted a stock car to pull behind my Aristo LS Mikado. I like the looks of the MDC reefers I have behind it, so decided to make the plans roughly the size of the MDC cars. They are 13 3/8" long and 3 3/4" tall. Then I discovered that my wood stir sticks would work for the boards, if I shortened it up a little. So I did a set of plans to use them. It is 12 3/4" long and the same 3 3/4" tall. If you want a copy, email me and I’ll send either or both to you as attachments.

I have made progress on the stock car, despite my back problems! Anyway, used Titebond 2 glue on the coffee stir sticks. Pinned the plans to a piece of foam board, then put wax paper over that. The old classic way! Pinned the horizontal boards down with pins beside them, glued the verticals on the bottom boards, then did the too boards, just putting them on from the plans, used weights where necessary. The door has taken quite a bit of work, got a ways to go on it. Frame is scaled from the reefer plans that were in GR ages ago. Having fun!

Looks good!

Good progress!

I got the side walls done and glued to the frame. Goofed on the end wall plywood pieces, so have to cut new ones, then vertical planking will go on them. Door is just jammed in, sadly I put it upside down. It will hang from a brass rod later. Having fun! Jerry

Nice job. That’s a lot of boards to keep straight. Looks nice!

Holy Crap!
You got more patience than me!
Looking good.

Not so hard, doing one board at a time and using the pins to keep it straight. Once you have a few boards on, it stays in place well. May do a few more. Jerry

I got the end pieces on, will put vertical planks on them. Inside is painted with alcohol/india ink mix. Outside will be UP yellow, I think. Not sure about the roof yet, any ideas? Jerry

Writing to John MacGuyver about the stock car build he did on MLS for a Ozark kit. He mentioned Bob Uniack did the molds and might have some parts. Bob was kind enough to send the hay door ends, here one is mounted.

I got some more work done on the stock car. I painted the wood with a india ink/alcohol mix. Will dry brush some UP color over it later.

Brake details that Bob Uniak sent.

The calf figures by Schleich came from our local farm store. I glued them down securely with hot glue, I don’t think it will show much, once the roof is on.

Lookin good!

Beautiful work! Even more impressive considering it was done with coffee sticks.

Pretty slick. Are you going to add one of those sound modules?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

No Bruce, no sound. I’m just 1/2 mile from the 3 main line UP tracks here in Nebraska. Hear train sounds all the time. Seem to prefer my trains to be quiet. Probably will hear enough cows from the feedlot up the road!

Probably stop on this car for a bit, have a gun truck model I was commissioned to do, plan to use the dough for a new electric Pacific or Mike to use with my freight train when I’m too lazy to fire up my live steam Mike. Jerry

Nice! I need some more stock cars in 1:20… hmm

Don’t forget all the cow crap stain on the outside, about, you know, cow hole high.

Noted John.
