Large Scale Central

1/32nd(sorta) stock car plans

I finally got back to my stock car. Decided the color was okay, till I weather it more. Here’s a shot with some wheel trials. Probably not the trucks I’ll use, but it’s what I had on hand.

For the roof, I cut some craft foil to size and scored seam lines in it with a ball point pen. I used Rustoleum red primer, then shot some Terra Cotta craft spray paint I bought years ago, it started spurting out bigger drops that works well for rust effects, I think.

Now on to more on it…

Jerry,
I don’t know that era rolling stock but I can surly respect the work working!
Nice job so far

I ripped down some pine for the roofwalk boards. Used india ink/alcohol wash on them. Irons are brass wire.

Lookin good.

Jerry Looks nice. If it was me those sticks would be so uneven. How dod you get them lined up so perfect? Coffee sticks work great. I actually use the fun sticks from wal-mart. They work great as well although the coffee sticks I think are longer. Will haveto give them a try as well. Everytime I think I have what I want I see someone elses work and think I have to do that. You guys give me way too many ideas. Not that it is a bad thing.

I alweays here about india ink. Where do I get that. Can it be bought at wal-mart or hardware stores? I have never seen this stuff before.

Shawn,
You should be able to find the ink at office supply stores.
Ralph

Shawn, I built the sides on top of the plans(taped to a piece of foam board), used pins to keep them lined up, on the side of the boards. You can get India ink from an art supply store, or craft store. Or check with your local art teacher, it’s used for drawing with.

Jerry that really turned out nice. Did you decide on the trucks yet? What lettering you going to use?

Dave

Nice job Jerry, You’re braver than me to tackle a cattle car with all those wood sides and braces…I chickened out and bought an accucraft 1:20 th scale one !! Don’t forget a little straw (new not used ) on the floor. dave

I finished up the stock car, here’s some shots of it. I had adjusted the plans I found online to match the size of the MDC cars I like to pull behind my LS Mike. I used KD 820 couplers. Lettering, someday!

Size comparison with a MDC car.

Roof shot. I used Bragdon chalks on it and the sides.

Nice,
I can almost smell it over here in NC.
Ralph

Jerry that turned out nice. I think I would have only done a two board width on the roof walk though.

Dave

I was towing this around yesterday, thought I should make a couple of more, so cut up some wood. Frame is done, needs planked, building the sides also, out of coffee stir sticks again.

Wow, how’d I miss this thread. Those are neat lookin!

I like that Jerry. The roof really came out nice.

Sorry Ralph that smell was from me.

Don’t want too go OT …but that car reminds me of the movie Pink Floyd The Wall…Looks good Jerry…

Hey, cool! Looks like it has stock in it too.
