Youtube won't go to fullscreen

I noticed recently that the embedded youtube player (using the icon next to the picture insert icon,) doesn’t allow for full-screen mode in Firefox.

A quick search of their ‘help’ produced this thread:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1116018

Which says “This is about the HTML5 media player and this player requires a special allowfullscreen=“true” attribute in the outermost iframe for embedded videos.”

I tried adding the allowfullscreen=“true” attribute in the iframe, but nothing changed. I will now try the full embed code from Youtube and add it as html into this page:

Aha! The attribute in this embed says allowfullscreen, not allowfullscreen=“true”. I’ll try adding that to the source from the embedded player (this site’s icon.

Edit: After I tried inserting the allowfullscreen attribute, I now discover that the website has removed it !!! What gives, Bob ??

This happens now and then to various videos. I just click on the UTube link on the bottom right to bring it up there and full screen works, just an extra click…

Most posted videos will allow you to click the YouTube icon, but not the “Full Screen” one. Just hit the YouTube icon (which takes you there), then when in YouTube you can hit the Full Screen icon and it will open.

It never used to prevent fullscreen. Just trying to figure out what changed so I can avoid that extra step.

This topic has to be re-mastered every time the site owner makes an upgrade to the software. For this incarnation the procedure is…

  • Grab the embed code from the YouTube video (directly on the video): right click in OPERA (copy embed code); right click in FireFox (Copy embed code); right click in Chrome (get embed code);right click in IE (get embed code).
  • In the reply/post window click on “insert/edit video” button in the top row (looks like a movie frame), and select “Embed”.
  • Paste the embed code (copied from YouTube) in the box and click “OK”.

That’s what we all found works now. Some day down the road we will have to find a new way for new software, but for now this works. Have fun!
