YouTube Video Embedding Instructions

This topic has to be re-mastered every time the site owner makes an upgrade to the software. For this incarnation the procedure is…

  1. Grab the embed code from the YouTube video (directly on the video): right click in OPERA (copy embed code); right click in FireFox (Copy embed code); right click in Chrome (get embed code);right click in IE (get embed code).
  2. In the reply window click on “insert/edit video” button in the top row (looks like a movie frame), and select “Embed”.
  3. Paste the embed code (copied from YouTube) in the box and click “OK”.

That’s what we all found works now. Some day down the road we will have to find a new way for new software, but for now this works. Have fun!

Thanks Joe. This begs the question - “How do I get started with videos?” Does YouTube require a fee? Are there any free video sites. Can I assume any video I take with my camera or phone is in the proper format?

I would like to try videoing in 2016.

Lou,

YouTube is free, just sign up. Any video format that your camera takes can be uploaded to YouTube I believe. Please try videoing. We all love them! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Joe,

I can’t get it to work using Chrome or Safari. (I’m on a Mac).

Just a gray box with the video icon from the tool bar shows up and then is gone when I hit post.

John,

So how did you get this video above embedded?

I just embedded this video using Safari on my Win 7 PC

Joe,

I don’t know what happened. When I left it had a gray square with a video icon in the middle.

I’ll never figure out these damn computers.

Joe,

It posted after I refreshed the LSC web page.

I have asked our benevolent dictator to make these instructions a sticky so everyone will know where to find them.

Testing. This is from last May, many new additions so far this winter. I need to do a new video.

Testing Video embedding.

That works!!

OK, we need to put this in the first page/beginning of the thread and delete all the experiments that make people not “Get” it… i.e. should be information only not experiments. By the time people get here because of the frustration of trying to post a video, they don’t need to see posts with videos, they need help.

Joe’s method works, but you CANNOT add text, or edit the post… if you do, no video.

So do exactly what Joe says, go to youtube, get to “share” then select the “embed” option, and copy that text…

Come back here, create a new post… DON’T TYPE ANYTHING into the post… select the button for the video, then select the embed tab… paste the embed code you copied right there, and DON’T DO ANYTHING ELSE BUT SAVE AND CLOSE…

(I’m sure there are ways around this issue, but most people fail… just make a post with the video only… the workarounds just add complexity and frustration, easy to make a second “normal” post )

Greg

p.s. since this is supposed to be an informative post… please TEST somewhere else, not on this sticky!!!

I can certainly edit, and add text and still have the embedded video. The video must have https:// in the embed code to work now.

11/15/2017 Upgraded Firefox to v.57 and all seems good as far as editing.

Showen in post video box. " iframe width=“560” height=“315” src=“https://www.youtube.com/embed/HGpxLXKRCVU” frameborder=“0” allowfullscreen>

Post with out using video box … just post embed diret using firefox

This week is mess up changes i guess. I-E won’t do anything on this computer or laptop. Just haven’t found the right way to post yet.Tomorrow is a difference day with internet updates i guess.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

There is a much newer thread on this topic, for those still having trouble.

Yeah, but this is a sticky, where people can find it…

So it should be updated, cleaned up or deleted… by the way Noel’s post has video “boxes” that blink in and out at about 1 hertz…

Latest 64 bit FF…

Greg

Greg,

Something has jumped the rails! All videos are flashing on LSC!

Flashing?

Bob,

I’m on my older desktop machine running Firefox v52 and the videos are not flashing. Apparently the upgrade to v57 screwed things up.

Bob,

I’m back on my newer desktop machine running Firefox v57 and now everything is OK. It must have been a Firefox glitch.
