Good Day,

Sorry for any inconvenience, but I'm in a terrible situation. I came down here to Istanbul,Turkey for a program, last night on my way back to my hotel room I was robbed at gunpoint, my wallet and other valuables were stolen off me, leaving my passport and life safe. My luggage is still in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment on outstanding bills I owe. I contacted my bank (E-mail) for a wire transfer but it has proven almost Impossible to operate my account from here as they made me understand international transactions take 7 working days to be effective which i can't wait. I need you to help me with a loan to pay my hotel bills and get my self home. I will reimburse you soon as I get back Home. I will  appreciate whatever you can assist me with. Let me know if you can be of help.

All hopes on you.

Warmly,
Lewis.

The spammer did not even type in my name at the To address field.

HaHaHa! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sheesh, those spammers should really get a bit more creative. Last time it was Scott Polk who had the (same) problem.

Looks like they are picking on the Polks and for all we know Lewis is out of the loop, can’t address the problem on a friendly forum and is … hmmmm … retired.

I’ve gotten several messages"from" Lewis over the years, clearly he is not very good with his passwords…

I got the email also.

I have a friend that is somehow on his dealer email list, gets all kind of “inside” information.

What the heck is Lewis doing in Istanbul??? Doesn’t he know that’s a war zone? Is there a toy show going on there? We have to rescue him!

Oh, wait, never mind.

I got it too. His email must have been compromised. I know I was in his address book because occasionally he’d send me stuff I know he didn’t intend for me to read!

I know a lot of people who refuse to use secure passwords, or won’t change them.

It’s just not safe nowadays when huge computing power to break passwords can be had by kids still in elementary school!

As I tell many people, you will eventually “get religion”, whether before or after your accounts are compromised.

Greg

I understand the second part of his trip is to visit a Nigerian Prince
:stuck_out_tongue:

Not just your side of the Pond either. Had exactly the same two weeks back. But, supposedly from a buddy here in Portsmouth,UK.

Nothing unusual about this type of mail I guess. One of the penalties of using Yahoo IMHO.

Hey Alan…you mean you do not get this sort of thing? What do you use?

Are we taking a collection to help Louie get back or what?

lol

I gave @ the office.

Dear Lewis, sorry to hear you’re stuck in Istanbul. Perhaps you need to scan for malware?

I had a few SPAM mails and one compromise when using a Yahoo address. I ditched Yahoo and use GMail and AOL (my ISP). Tight settings on both systems. I get the occasional SPAM on AOL. I did get SPAM on one AOL address. That was one linked to American radio Ham web sites. I closed that account.

Cheers Alan…

Doesn’t the Orient Express terminate in Istanbul? Maybe he could hitch a ride on that.

Not anymore Steve.

I figure spammers wouldn’t be sending that crud out if no one fell for it. So there have to some gullible folks out there somewhere who fall for that junk. When I get emails that don’t address me by my name, or address me by my screen name, I read them for a chuckle and then toss them in the delete file.

Can there really be folks gullible enough to send money from an email like that? I mean, really…

BTW, how do I cancel a money transfer? :stuck_out_tongue:

I got one like that a while ago but the friend they claimed was sending the note only lives about five miles from us and I knew he was home!
