Very unique Devon.
Cool Devon! i would not be able to make this lamp after 2 bottles of whiskey!
Wow, Devon. That is a cool light fixture. I hope the whiskey tasted as good as the fixture looks.

What are some other things people have bought specifically to re-purpose?

This sorta fits … I bought a second set of wiper blades for my truck, because I’m using the guards that protected the blades … to paint my ties and not my rails…
They snap on and have a wide base that covers most of the rail foot, 40" (2 guards) is a reasonable section to paint. Then they slide on down the line to the next section. My stain looks best on bare metal.

That’s perfect John great idea
Very cool light Devon, how did you cut open the bottom of the bottles? Mike
Oh, well, yea. I bought baby bottle nipples years ago to make shop light hoods in 1:12 scale. I bought jewellery parts for door hangers on my boxcars. I bough snaps for gusset plates and brake wheels. I bought wooden axle pegs for vent caps on my passenger cars. I use floral wire for piping and grab irons on my rolling stock.
Around here its not what is the thing, its more what can I use the thing for. In my living room, I have a discarded coffee table that is a shelving unit. I cut the inside out of the top, leaving the decorative trim, put shelves in it, and attached it to the wall. On the back porch I have the Buoy Lights that light up my porch, and on the railroad, I have a copier hot roller that has been repurposed into a drain culvert. It was almost painful to have to send the 3 foot long hot roller back to the office. It would have made a great drain culvert under the fill around the Provost Farm.
