Yorke Boxcab Build (and mod)

So watching the all the Boxcab love going on around here I thought I would post some pictures of an ongoing project. I acquired a Tom Yorke Boxcab kit last year (thanks Tom!) and thought is would be perfect for my 1:20.3 Rail Contractor’s Train. I’m still working on the unit, and the photos do not show all the details, but I can tell you it’s a fabulous kit. I have taken a few liberties while building the model. I opted to model “steel” doors, rather than the ones included in the kit (handles still to be added). I also “re-powered” the unit with a CAT generator I found at this year’s Big Train Show and, of course, the Contractor’s safety officer deemed the footboards to be too hazardous - so they were left off the build. Wipers came from the parts bin on the workbench. (This build is intended to model late 1980’s era equipment, though no specific prototype. More on that to come.) (Now lets see if my first post from Photobucket works) Enjoy!

Do you have a contact address for this kit? Is it still available? Looks great…

Nice work and goodlooking kit,AKA. Thanks for the post

Thanks Dave… I’m excited to get her to the paint shop early next month!

Todd - Tom just posted in another thread here in the Modeling section that he has some kits available I believe. I think you can email him here on LSC.

Josh, Looking good. What paint scheme will it take on?

From Photobucket copy and paste to the reply thread. You can remove the “” at the start and end of each image pasted into the reply box, that will keep the photos clean in your post, with out the tags before and after each image.

Dave

Sorry guys, I forgot to add my e-mail address! It is; [email protected]. And I must thank Josh for posting the photos. The kit is still available and I would be happy to e-mail some photos to those who might be interested.

Hey Dave,

Currently, the plan is for the Boxcab, and the three Ballast Hoppers (only two are in the photo) to go CAT yellow. I’m debating if I should also spray the under frame of the Boxcab black, or stay yellow and then just wash/weather it dark. I may leave the roof white? (Anyone know? I would think perhaps the roof would stay white for cooling purposes? I’ve seen lots of modern MOW equipment in the yellow paint scheme, but never thought to look at what color the roofs were!)

The work flat will end up staying black and then both it and the hoppers will receive reflective caution tape on their sides.

I’m going for more of a modern construction company feel. I’d also like to have decals made for something that sounds plausible - like “Northwest Rail Services” or something similar… and then apply that in a clean blue font to the equipment. Think the Pandrol Jackson paint schemes.

On the roof AKA, it’s an either or thing. Some white, more yellow, so you choose

Nice! Looking forward to pictures with paint.
