Yet another revo question, unlinking?

How do you unlink a cab? Just curious…

Terry

Intentionally? Set up another loco address in another cab and link it to that address instead. To reassign a cab to a particular loco, just go into the menu for that cab and dial in a different loco address.

If you want to assign a NEW linking and cab number to a locomotive, just pick a new set and link them. The locomotive will no longer respond to the old set.

If you want to assign a NEW locomotive to linking and cab number that is no longer used by another, just change the locomotive name and road number and link the NEW locomotive.

As I mentioned in another post, I encourage people to use the same number for the linking and cab numbers. It’s just less confusing that way.

If you only have a few locomotives and want to clean things up, you can use the MEMORY RESET function in the MAIN SET UP menu. It will erase all the locomotive data you have entered and allow you to re-enter and link your roster. I had to do this with a couple of throttles because the owner had the data so muddled up we could not figure it out.

If you use a similar set up in the ASSIGN FUNCTIONS menu for your locomotives, you can enter the data for one and then copy the information from one cab to another cab number. Then go to the new cab information and change the locomotive name and road number and link it.

Another way to think about it is that the loco ID is tied specifically to one decoder, and the cabs are akin to mail slots. Any loco ID can be put in any mail slot, and you can even put multiple loco IDs into one mail slot (MU).

I use the Loco ID that matches (or is reasonably close to) the road number of the particular locomotive in which the decoder is installed. EBT #1 is loco ID #1, TRR #10 is loco ID #10, etc. (Fortunately, I don’t have locos whose road numbers exceed 49.)

With this system, I can arrange my locos in the cabs any way I need to; by road name, wheel arrangement, SU/MU, makes no difference. The cabs are just sequential slots that determine the order in which the locos are scrolled through.
